    none yet/none planned! It's perfect!
I trust my life to a plastic gun so I am good with a plastic oil filter housing!

Good price. Think I paid about $20 for these months ago. I replaced the plastic housing on the wife's RAV4 and my previous Tundra with the Aluminum one at the first oil change.

I had to buy one of these for my Tundra. I admit that I ruined the plastic one due to my fluted wrench being a Walmart cheapo. The filter I got came with a special tool which helps on both the metal and plastic. In the end, I feel it comes down to preference...to each his own.

That's what I was thinking, the plastic housing is pretty beefy it seems like it could outlast every moving part on the vehicle.

I had the service center install the oil filter housing during the oil change today. They wrote in my service paper work that the metal filter does not have the locking tabs like the plastic does. So they pushed the lock up against it but it's not locked. They said it won't rotate so it should be fine.

Any info? I didn't look at it before they installed it

Check this out. The tabs are just for retention, but it's not on there tight like it's screwed on. It floats on the tab and uses the spring pressure to keep it from flopping around before installation. If it doesn't rotate, it should be fine. So yours came with the longer tube like the one displayed in this thread?

Which brand of wrench for these caps is decent (ie won't break the second time I use it)?

I don't know. The service people did it. There is a tube in the plastic unit, so I'm not sure if they switched it out.

Yeah the Motivx MX 2320 (640mm) looks like it would take some abuse. Thanks Splitbolt,

You're looking for trouble, you didn't look at this part and you gave it to the oil change people to swap out ? do you think they took the time to measure that tube and make sure everything was identical. This thread gave all the info you why would you not check it yourself. That seems like a big gamble and now the locking tabs don't lineup that doesn't seem right to me. these type of mods are for the do it yourself or at home guy who is into it.

I'll check if the part was removed from the unit when I get home. There are no locking tabs on the metal unit

The housing is supposed to be identical with the exception of it being aluminum the locking tabs should be there. I've not heard of anybody else not having locking tabs.

so much agree..... I would have used the resources here since it was listed in one of my posts, but if the service dept agreed to put it in, then they can be liable for any issues with it if their tech did not install it properly. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out, but some of those techs do amaze me!
They likely wouldn't have installed it if it was deemed unsafe or it didn't fit right.

You're locking tabs lined up and worked correctly didn't they? , interesting you bring up liability as the tech noted oil filter housing swap , noted that it did not fit correctly and that he thinks it should be OK. Customer supplied parts noted on the work order I think they covered their liability
