By the time large enough holes are cut for the BSM's.. ..Won't be any Aluminum left of the bumper caps lol. Might as well just do steel at that point. But a full bumper..I could see in Al.

A big misconception is that aluminum isn't strong. It's still very strong, though obviously not on the same level as steel.

The thing you need to worry about are the welds, which can be just as shitty on steel.

With my aluminum front bumper and 10k winch, i recovered my buddy's Dodge 1-ton with welding skid and welder in the back. I was tethered to a power pole from my hitch to make up the weight difference, but the bumper held firm, and has done so a couple times since.

I was thinking about that. Have steel for the tow parts and aluminum for the rest of the bumper. I guess it's supply and demand. I figured going all aluminum will be the right fit for most people since they won't be going hard everyday to warrant steel but he weight savings will be there.

That bumper looks great! I'd definitely be in for one with bsm, backup lights and recovery points.

I wouldn't mind a real steel bumper front and rear, one that is sort of the same size and shape as the stock useless plastic bumpers on my 2016...

Curious about your hard shell RTT. Is that a Roofnest Sparrow? Do you still get satellite
radio reception with it covering your shark fin antenna?

I still have to play around with the bsm, Aesthetics is very important to me though, if I'm not able to keep the clearence and shape I want then I'll likely delete that option. i don't want to end up with a bumper that I don't like the looks and I really dont want to loose clearence just to keep the bsm. Again, I'm going to try my best to accommodate the bsm but not sure it will be possible while keeping the look I want.

Yes the welds and using the propper grade aluminum are crucial! All products are welded in house with pulsed mig with a push pull setup, The biggest problem with aluminum welds are the starts and stops. My new welder actually has a hot start setting and a crater fill setting to help with the cold starts and crater cracks.
These welds are not the greatest as I'm still getting used to the settings but this welder lays some nice sound welds

No BSM needed for me! I really like this idea. Maybe even making a 3 piece aluminum or steel bumper for the reason toyota made it. Easier to replace damaged parts

Looks good to me, I don't need a full on swing out bumper type setup.......yet.
