    Sad to say but my taco by-pass just started to go last week at 49,200 mile and it's a 2022 Off-Road Sport. I'll buy the aluminum if there's any left. Put me on the list please.

    The dealership told me it's not covered under the powertrain. FML... lol They wanted $2,900 for this work.

    You would think a part on the back of the motor where you cant get to that has coolant would be metal and not plastic.
    My mini cooper had a bunch of leaky coolant fittings...... all plastic. I guess its chaeper...

    Luckly my Tacoma isnt leaking im at 67K so far ....

    Technically it’s not according to them, part of the cooling system. My dealership still took care of mine under the powertrain warranty at around 40k.

    @Jowett

    Just seeing this. If you get a solution with the 90* figured out, I'm all about it.

    Also, back when I used to drag race, it was common practice to drill and tap these fittings out (thermostat housings, throttle bodies, etc), replace with a NPT fitting and whatever hose barb you needed on the other side. Sometimes we would use NPT to AN fitting to convert all the rubber hoses to braided hoses.

    Usually these fittings will twist right out with a set of vise grips. Maybe some heat on the cast aluminum part.

    Plenty of people make 3/8 NPT to 90degree hose barb fittings. Just a matter of finding the right one.

    My coolant By-pass just let go on 2018 TRD with 40k. Toyota dealership is looking for parts and working up an estimate. My overflow tank level did not drop, likely because the fracture was able to suck air into the system. I noticed when the heater stopped working and I backed into my driveway with steam coming out from under the hood, so it happened with little warning. I was 15 km up a steep FSR the day before so feel fortunate that it didn't rupture up the mountain. Is there a prescribed method of swapping out the part, by removing the intake manifold, removing the transmission or pulling the engine? I am sure the cost could vary wildly and I have yet to see a Toyota procedure written up for it.

    According to NHTSA, recalls are conducted for defects that “pose a risk to motor vehicle safety”

    This isn't that...

    It would be an extended warranty, if we are to be that lucky, and usually identified in a service bulletin. At the very least they could revise the part so it's a once and done replacement, even if on our dime.

    1st gen - it's got a built engine, a turbo, and waaaaaaay too much to list. 3rd gen - basic-bitch lift, S/C, Pro Wheels
    I'd also like to get on the list.

    I'd also be interested in helping with some development. If anyone changes theirs and doesn't immediately toss the old part, I'd be willing to pay shipping to get it from you.

    Add me to the list as well. I have a 2021 TRD Sport with 35k miles and I'm going to check and see if this is an issue. I just bought it to. Luckily it's Toyata certified and I still have a 12k bumper to bumper warranty, so if I even see an inkling of a leak, I'll make them replace it.
