Aluminum is always going to be more expensive than steel. Sliders aren't really mass produced. Nerf bars are, but they offer little to no protection.

If aluminum is too expensive then you'll have to trade the weight savings for the price, durability, and corrosion of steel.

    Work in progress...
Mine have taking a few light hits and more than paid for themselves. It was a two piece slider, 100 pounds between the both of them. Bolt on, CCF or something. "Wife says I don't need sliders" thread on here. Not sure they still sell them. Anyway, Best Buy on this truck I ever made...and my wife agrees.

I park at the very end of the parking lot rows. Can't afford a door ding...this paint is cherry!

I’m solely buying sliders so I can park as close to the door at the grocery store as possible

Understood. One can always hope and wish. Had to ask bc most of the slider threads are pre pandemic and price/availability are completely different.

I agree. Everyone knows sliders are the gateway armor though. Soon after sliders you got bumpers, skid plates, and a super sick bed rack/RTT you don’t use. Shit’ll add up quick. Next thing you know you got 400 pounds of metal you’re dragging to the mall

    400? Ha!

I had like 550# of constant weight in this picture:

And that’s a pretty mild setup. Felt nice taking bed rack and RTT off, but then added a trailer… haha!

Aluminum sliders would be awesome where I live. My steel ones will need some work before next winter…

Lighter than steel. Cheaper bc of mass production cost reduction, not bc aluminum is cheaper than steel. Those were the only 2 requirements.
Id take a functionality hit if they were lighter and a bit cheaper. But for the same price and more expensive I'd rather have the functionally.
Nerf bars or predator steps were never in the discussion bc they have nearly zero protection functionality (only door dings)

RCI has "up to 25% off" on sliders. I limit the type of off-road because my truck is a daily-driver. If I was going near a riskier off-road I would just accept the weight of steel sliders from RCI for the protection. Until then I WOULD buy Predator steps (no protection) for a wife/girlfriend because I want to remain undamaged.

That's why I went aluminum this time. My Tundra's sliders were just starting to need to be pulled and redone after a couple years. I will do less off-roading now so the downgrade in protection is worth the lower corrosion concerns.

Local steel yard costs are low enough im going to venture into the build my own. Don't need to be the best ever as I don't do rocks with the daily driver.
No point in having all the tools if you never use them.
Thanks for all the input everyone. Off to the DIY sections I go.
