While we're on the topic of 3rd brake lights, I'll go over the three biggest f@ck ups about the Tacoma.

I'll preface this rant by saying that all 1995-2015 and 2016-2021 AC third brake lights do not leak. 2016-2021 DC "can" leak.

First, the Frame, an ongoing rust issue. As of now, aluminum is nearly half the price of carbon steel. If Toyota engineers had any clairvoyance they would (should) have been making the frames from aluminum alloy like other manufacturers to avoid this issue long ago.

Second, the 3rd Gen AT is abysmal, shifts like sh×t. They put an 8 speed AT with manual mode in the 2018+ Camry 3.5L (301hp, same torque) and it's perfect, low end torque, pulls hard and quick in all gears and stays there.

Third, the 3rd brake light 2016-2021 DC. These monkeys put back in a brake light where you can only change out bulbs by disassembling the interior (and it leaks). Complete muppet, sesame street shit here. There's aftermarket pros and amateurs making better third brake lights.

    /rant off

Of those 3, given my location, 3rd brake light is #1 since 2 is N/A and 1 is mostly OK and I’d rather have a steel frame if given the choice.

Still would have liked some torque at low rpm without resorting to a tune.

Absolutely, all three red, two red and one white cargo, two red and an amber (orange) chase light and if you're going into the woods for a freaky Friday (or all weekend) you could do a strobe pink or green.

Cyclone LED Light - Black - KC #1350 (Clear)
Cyclone LED Light - Black - KC #1351 (Diffused)
Cyclone LED Light - Black - KC #1352 (Amber)

For those without the cargo light, it would be an easy one power wire run. Ground is shared.

This is a great idea! When I added cargo lights to my access cab I just tapped off the dome lights so it was really easy to wire up.

Thx for the info, based on feedback, I'm attempting to make these plug and play, bolt on, no splicing for both AC and DC.

If AC owners want a cargo light, they can get a clear Cyclone for the middle spot and wire that themselves into the overhead panel fairly easy like @Captqc has shown above.

Thx, I sent you a PM and I'll post here. Still trying to figure out wiring since some don't want to wire themselves, but it's fairly easy to use the wiring from your oem brake light.

    I'm thinking of four versions

AC Access Cab bare assembly, you buy 3 KC lights and wire up
DC Double Cab bare assembly, you buy 4 KC lights and wire up
AC Access Cab complete with 3 KC lights and prewired
DC Double complete with 4 KC lights and prewired

Ok great I will. DC double cab are still a couple weeks out, I've got the oem brake light now, have to make the plates, etc.

The AC access cabs are done first because I used my truck as the template.

I'd be game for an AC unit with three reds. Are you getting any bulk discounts on the Cyclones, or would I find them for the same price myself?

Great, I'll post some pics Tues/Wed of the actual brake light on my truck so you and everyone can see it. I'll have 10-15 brake lights made next week.

I'm not getting any bulk discount, I just buy the cyclones from Hotshot and free delivery.

I've thought about how everyone is wiring these and the easiest to start would be have the wired enough so you just use your male plug on the oem brake light, put in your cyclones and it's ready to go.

Thanks caribe, you've been a great help with the schematics. I just got the shapeways two plug for the overhead panel and a switch to do the cargo light the same time as the brake light.

Update, almost had this on the truck today, but the flat plates were not coming out good with the plasma cutter on compressed air. I'll cut them tomorrow on the band saw and form them to the gaskets.

These are primered, all gray will be semi gloss black. They'll sit about 1.75" off the back of the cab at the furthest point. Hope to have this one done tomorrow for pics.
