With the right muffler/tail pipe combo, you can make a V6 sound like a V8. But yeah, there’s no comparison really. I miss the 4.7L of my 2001 Tundra. It had custom duals with thrush mufflers. Sounded like a blown 454!

I've owned the following trucks at one point or another:

    1987 Chevy S10
    1997 Ford F350 Diesel
    1999 Ford Ranger
    2001 GMC Sierra 1500
    2005 Ford F150
    2017 Tacoma OR

I can say without a doubt the smaller trucks have been MUCH better to live with on a daily basis vs. the bigger trucks. Easier to park, (a little) easier on gas, more responsive/fun to drive, and no-doubt better off road. The Tacoma is the first smaller truck I've owned with a full cab and it is definitely better to live with than a reg cab (S10) or an extended cab (Ranger). When I was remodeling my first house it was handy to have the GMC and its bigger, wider bed for hauling lots of drywall, lumber, etc. I also had a Subaru Forester when I owned the GMC and I will say it was always nice to put the truck away and hop back in the forester after the work was done... IMO full size trucks just get exhausting to drive all the time and I find myself looking at everything else on the road and thinking about how much more engaging they probably are behind the wheel.

The Tacoma is a little cramped if you are used to something bigger... hell, my Forester seemed like it even had double the interior space as the Tacoma does. I'm 510" / 200 lbs and I feel like I am kind of at the max size to be comfortable in the truck. If you are over 6'0" or built a little larger I can see why you wouldn't necessarily like being in it. The selling point for me on the Tacoma is that it still comes in a manual transmission and I think it is the best-looking truck out there. Those two things combine for a smile on my face every time I start it up.

That's not the same as blah blah blah Ford tow packages ad nauseum.
And I don't believe the OP is interested in towing anything 12,000 lbs so yes, you drifted off topic.

Neither of these posts have any facts. The 10 speed transmission is mated to the 3.5 eb, 2.7 eb and the 5.0. The engine works as hard as you let it/ make it. I haven't seen any facts put out about life span and estimated failure of the different engine offerings.

    As far as the OP
If you want mid-size truck go for a Tacoma or the ranger when it comes out. The F250 is a great truck to have if you tow or need one for work or want and can afford one.

Otherwise have you considered a luxury crossover?

So looking at what you posted with the weights, mine was able to handle 8200 lbs trailer weight. I had the 3.5L 4x4 supercrew with the 3.31 gears. Thought it was like 7400 lbs.

As I tried to also explain in my first post, my tacoma has the same tow capacity that I need that my F-150 had. So, if I can get the same tow capacity (my boat trailer is only like 3800 lbs that I tow), then why not get the smaller truck with better gas mileage, my F-150 was only getting like 13 mpg and then when I towed it was like 9 mpg, where as my Tacoma gets like 21 mpg and then about 16 mpg when towing same boat. Especially when the Tacoma does everything I need done.

that is interesting since I had a 2011 F-150 3.5L ecoboost supercrew with the 3.31 gear ratio and this chart doesn't show it with max tow package like the other gear ratios do. Very first one listed under the Supercrew 4x4, 145" WB. I never said I didn't have all the coolers either, just didn't have the max Trailer tow package like is likes with the 3.73/4.10 gear ratio's.

Some are as Brand loyal as some of the Yota people, but most look at it logically.

Some of them thought I was nuts for not waiting for the Ranger but I will not be a guinea pig for any manufacturer and "test bed" their truck for them.

I just am tired like the OP of having "too much" truck and leasing a new one every other year was not going to work as I get ready to retire. No payments better that a "new" truck.
