A couple of years ago I got rid of my 04 double cab for a 2017 trd sport. Lately I’ve been itching to go back to a first generation. I miss it. Anyone else regret getting rid of a first gen?

I kept my 03 for my wife and got a new 17, the 03 has better response and get up and go, but I’m 6’2 so little cramped for me……but yah, if the 17 drove like the 03 it would be wonderful…..

That's why you always keep the 1st gen when you go buy the 3rd gen. No loss, no worries.

I miss mine every day but I didn't have a choice in the matter. It was smashed by tree during a storm and I couldn't find much in terms of 4x4 1st gens in my area.

11 months ago, I upgraded. My new truck is better in almost every way.

Still end up wishing I had this back a few times a week though.Muddy First Gen.jpg

I miss my ‘95 4Runner … had 220K Miles and ran like a dream, looked like it was new off the lot. Sold it in 2008 to an employee who promptly drove it into a brick wall. … literally. :notsure:

Traded my 04 when I bought my 15. Really missed my first gen, reg cab. So much so that the I picked up 2000, reg cab in 2019. I like my 15, but my 2000 is my daily driver. There's just something about first gens, I love driving them.

If my old cars were like new, I'd miss em. My old cars were not like new, therefore I don't miss em.

Went from a 95 to 17. I miss the taller cab in the first gen, and I’m not even that tall.

I think what people are missing is simplicity. No emissions engine garbage (better response), "normal" auto trans that doesn't "learn", not sized up, and the interior is basic. Less electronics. Everything is raw almost. That's what I miss about my 04. And it was noisier, which I actually seemed to like lol. With that being said, I do enjoy my 2015. I'm still getting used to it as I've only put 2500 miles on it. I couldn't afford waiting or the money for a 3rd gen back in September and I know those are a bit more sophisticated (test drove one). I got the next best thing with low mileage.

I did the exact same thing. Sold my 04 to my good friend for a 17. I never fell in love with it and got a Tundra. During hunting season in 2020 I drove my old 04 and I realized how much I missed it so I found a 2021 Tacoma with a standard. Closest I could find to my 04.

Apples to oranges but I regret getting rid of my Mazda B2200. I did however keep my 1999 Ranger but it doesn't fit the ticket like a 90s T4R or a first gen Tacoma.

Less, not none. Even OBDII started in the 90's, cats were a thing 20 years before that.

I wanted a first gen but had to buy new because I couldnt find anything worth buying or decently priced.
I recently sold my classic car and will start looking again for a first gen or a 80s Mazda B2200 to restore soon.
