Am I crazy or does the Sport sit higher than the PRO?

So I have a 2010 Sport. But yesterday I went and bought a 2021 Trd Pro. I’m looking at them in my driveway and even though I know the Pro has the 1” factory level lift, my Sport (which has a basic leveling kit) still seems to sit higher and have more ground clearance.

Of course the Pro has 16 inch wheels versus the sports 17 inch. Is that the difference maker? I don’t mean to sound like I’m crying about it, I just was expecting the pro to have a higher stance. I do think I want to lift my pro a little and definitely change the tires. I don’t like the geolamders that the dealership put on.

I had a spacer lift on my 16 and it sat higher than every standard lifted truck on our lot, 1st gen or 2nd gen.

Spacers are great for height, but thats it.

Do they diminish the ride or suspension?

Basically it forces the suspension to stay in a state of down stroke, so you have no down travel only uptravel. Fine for streets, awful off road or on gravel etc.

Combined with bad ball joint and steering angles it leads to a poor ride.

That said, it's fine and many many tacomas have spacer lifts. Just be aware that its not perfect.

Thanks. I definitely think the truck would look better lifted a little. But I just paid extra for the pro and I don’t want to negate the benefits of the suspension and whatnot

Using a tire calculator, it looks like you'll get one more revolution per mile on the TRD Sport tires than TRD Pro tires. Definitely not a noticeable difference and definitely within an amount that could change based solely on how much tread you have.

That being said, there could be a number of factors here. The TRD Pro could weigh more and could be sitting lower in the suspension due to being tuned differently than a TRD Sport suspension which is more meant for road use. It could be your imagination as well. Even though the pro has a lift, I've never really thought it looked like it was a different height than the non-pro Tacomas when sitting side-by-side.

It's a big strange, but I have noticed some bone stock tacoma's of various models have slightly different heights. Even my sr5 seems to sit higher than some different trim tacoma's, and i've seen a couple sit as high, or higher than mine. Its easy enough to tell if some have been lifted, as there is a definite difference.

It is also interesting to see how many appear to sit lower just based on having things attached to the underbody such as the air dam, running boards, or even the mudflaps.

Yeah, whether higher, or lower many just aren't the same. Some even have more rake than others where mine as always sat perfectly level. It's just the way they come from the toyota plant imo.

Do you own a tape measure?

    Use it.

'Seems' is not a unit of measure.

3 to try. Center of wheel vertical to fender lip. Any specific point on the frame to the ground. Any specific point on an axle line to the ground.

The first relates to the amount of suspension lift

The 2nd is simple frame to ground clearance.

The 3rd is the 'real' ground clearance at the lowest part of the truck. Only affected by tire diameter.

It’s a spacer and they only leveled it. That’s why I thought the trucks should set up the same. The sport is a tad higher. 1/2 inch or maybe a little more. It was dark when I measured
