Keep it and wrap it instead. Not to mention if I had a daily 100mi commute and the truck was nearing the end of its payments, I’d pay it off and immediately add an economy car to the stable if you’re in a financial situation to afford another vehicle.

I like cavalry blue more than army green, your truck looks great. I personally would just keep it.

However, I did basically the same thing 2 years ago but not for color. I went from a 2017 sr5 2wd, to a 2019 trd off road 4x4. Both in quicksand so no one even noticed I got a new truck.

If you do end up doing it, why are you not putting the truck back to stock and transferring all the parts? I traded my truck in on a Saturday, kept it for the weekend to pull every part off the truck and they came to my house and swapped it with the new truck on Monday.

My vote is not just no, but hell no, to any payments that are not a mortgage. Also, if I had to commute in my personal vehicle, I doubt I'd even own a Taco. It is such an impractical vehicle as to be relegated to niche status, in my view. Not efficient enough to commute with, not big enough to truck with. I especially wouldn't be staying in a payment for such a situation.

I would suggest figuring out what you'd actually be paying for that truck at the end of the loan and ask yourself if you would write that check right now. Then put that into a financial calculator and see what that money would've turned into in an average performing mutual fund, or the mortgage interest it could save you if applied to your home. That's just me though.

Ultimately it’s your money/choice. At the end of the day it’s what makes you happy.

With that said from a financial standpoint making some assumptions seems like you’re losing big money just to swap colors. How much do you owe and are getting in the trade in. Winding up with the same payment isn’t great when you’re doing it for 60+ mon v whatever you have left.

$40k seems pretty high for a 3 year old car too. Though that’s the game with the resell on Tacomas. Your Calvery Blue Tacoma is gorgeous too. It’s the color I’d want on a Pro if I was in the market.

You can probably have your current model painted in Army Green for less than what the new financing is going to cost.

3rd gens are an appreciating asset right now. It would make more sense to have 2 Tacomas instead of 1. Think it as an investment in your future.

Same payment, more time? No. You're losing money.

Unless it were an emergency I'd never trade until at least the one I was driving was paid off. IMO you need to keep one 5 years minimum and 10 is better. At about 10 years can have the truck long paid off with no payment and you're unlikely to ever have to spend any money on a major repair. And at 10 years you can still get at least 50% of what you paid for it in trade. Maybe 60%.

FWIW I sold the 2008 when I bought my 2022. I still think about all the fun things I could have done to the old truck with the money I put into the new one and been happy with it.

Keep your current truck and buy you a beater car to commute. I drive 90+ miles a day to and from work and bought a 2003 Honda Civic (for $2,800) that now has 237,000 miles. It gets 38-41 mpg's. You'd be stupid to extend your loan for 60 months only to be in the same situation you're in now. A truck with higher miles that sucks on gas mileage.

at $4 per gallon, that's about $200 a month in savings, you are one of the smart ones! Plus your truck will last another decade or more with less miles. I did this year ago when gas prices shot up, and I didn't have a company truck to take home.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Crazy re the color thing? Yes…. :)

Mine is orange, which I don’t like but it was bought used. My need was Off Road access cab with 6 foot box and on used market took 6 months to find one. So orange it is.

It could have been yellow with green stripes and I would have still bought it as it checked all my boxes.

A guy on a similar thread this morning was looking for feedback on trading a 2020 for a 2023.

One guy said if your current one does not have issues with valve cover leak, coolant bypass and other common issues, why take the chance when it is basically the same vehicle but newer. Definitely something to consider.

However the 15K miles is attractive.

I cancelled my appointment for tomorrow to "just go see it" because I think everyone here knows I'd be driving home in an Army Green truck.

I MADE A VERY ADULT DECISION! Yay me?

I still have an urge to do something big. Maybe I'll get my house painted or something boring like that.

Being a semi-responsible adult sucks sometimes.

I hate that you're right. If I can ever figure out what's going on with my truck in the electrical harness thing that makes it hard to tune, I might buy a supercharger. So there's that to look forward to!

Surely there are other, better things to spend money on other than switching the color of your truck? Normally I would say what does anyone’s opinion matter but you asked for opinions. Terrible decision in my opinion.
