it would take a lot of skill to get a script to click on the "motorcycles" or "street signs", etc. It would take a pretty sophisticated AI algorithm. In fact I'm pretty sure that's exactly why Captcha uses it. They basically get free human labor to create a training dataset. Then they can build models off of it. (actually scratch that because the model needs to know what's correct in order to determine if you're a human LOL)

Now the text style captcha, where it's just a few odd looking letters and numbers, could be easily read by an OCR.. but I still doubt most fly by night scammers know the first thing about that.

Don't underestimate them. Criminals aren't dumb. Their strength is they know how dumb we are.

Remember that scene in Office Space where they are looking up money laundering in the dictionary? Criminals have a lot of time and resources on their hands.

This is true, it's always a cat and mouse game. The whole process is about staying one step ahead so things don't get out of control and only a few "smart" scammers know ways around it quickly. Right now Craigslist is pretty much useless with all the spam listings. That and it would take a lot of processing power to run an AI/OCR program on a simple captcha.

I recently sold a popup trailer on craigslist, half the responses I got were obvious scams.

Anyone who offers you full price sight-unseen and wants to pay with [not cash], and says "someone" will pick it up for them. I mean, come on, do people fall for that shit still?

One person gave that exact line of pull price offer and a 3rd party delivery service. I just responded with "You scammers really need to work on your tactics." Never heard back. Weird.

I'd rather deal with lowballers all day.

Yeah, it gets really annoying even if the scams are easy to spot. Ugh.

I also feel bad for the old people that easily fall for it.

I wish I had the time go scam the scammers like some people do.

Someone needs to set up an AI that can spot the obvious scams and then bombards them with horse porn or something.
