Am I expecting too much from a tonneau cover?

    Stock and staying that way
If I need to keep something dry, I use 5 gallon buckets with screw top lids or a plastic tote.

Lomax tonneau cover, oem bed lights, AJT Design chrome delete, black out badges & tailgate letters, AVS hood deflector & vent visors, Solkie tech hood supports, interior LED lights, Tufskinz mud guards, RedArc TowPro Liberty, bed mat, kicker speaker upgrade, Hikari ultra H11 low beams, Diode Dynamics SS3 fogs in yellow, Meso customs total taillight stage 1. Coming soon: Compact powered sub install Future mods planned: bigger tires (265/75/16) BILLSTIEN 5100 lift
I have the Lomax low profile trifold and its pretty good at keeping water out but I had to do a few mods with additional weather stripping to get it there. First there are little openings in the front corners of the bed that apparently the OEM cover install kit comes with rubber plugs to cover that you don't get with the aftermarket ones. I covered that with a bit of the rubber tailgate seal. the other part the seems to be a problem is the area @holvey called out in his post. I added a thin Neoprene weather strip between the bed rails and the rails the cover uses and bolted the covers side rails back on. that has reduced the water to a few drips in the 4 corners and where there is a hole for water to run out. things on the bed mat stay totally dry except for a bag the was leaning on the side of the bed where a little water still gets past in hard rain.

bottom line is none are 100% water tight, you should get a camper shell if you expect that.

I suggest that you contact Access directly. I have found that their techs are most helpful. Over the years, I have had four of their covers. Top quality covers and great service from factory. Oh….no leaks on my dealer installed original model on my 2018 Taco.

So, since I have the same kind, I'm going to ask: you just drive it through a car wash and the Tyger cover survives it OK? I'm considering it.

I have a Truxedo Truxport and get very little water from the car wash and none in the rain. What little I do get comes in at the tailgate gaps in the corners. I liked the Truxport since it sits on top of the rails instead of inside the rails. And it came with foam blocks to seal the ends of the front rail (The 1/4 gaps from the factory.)

I have the same cover for 4 years in PNW daily wetness. No issues with water getting inside while parked or driving.
