It’s not fraud in getting the company to reimburse the shipping that they said was free. I thought the item was already shipped, he canceled it.

4.5 gallons of Hawaii gas at current prices.

    Or 3 gallons of milk.

Could you imagine if cars ran on milk? Fuck that would be expensive.

What you suggested is fraud and it's very apparent from looking at the website what does and does not qualify for a sale or free shipping.

Would you walk out of a store with something you didn't pay for because the store wouldn't honor a discount on it? That's the exact same thing you suggested the OP threaten to do without the anonymity of the internet hide behind.

Seems like a whole lot of hubbub for a $16 mistake on both parties’ side. I’m not advocating for either, but I think @SDHQ OFFROAD and OP both misstepped. Miscommunication causes more errors than any other aspect of business. Manufacturer should have stepped up with customer service and OP should not have posted a “just want your opinion” thread before exhausting all other options.

Let’s play nice and try to rectify a mistake rather than ostracize a member (including vendors). Humans drive these vehicles, humans make these products, and humans complete the transactions. Errors can and will be made and I suggest recalling some of your (plural) mistakes when attacking a vendor, REGARDLESS of the offense. Have you never extended grace?

Keep in mind that the Pelfrey conundrum wasn’t a mistake, but a blatant strategy for a money grab. That’s a categorically different situation.

This is just one reason I avoid social media and mobile versions of websites when money is involved. I like having a decent sized screen to view more at a glance and composing an e-mail or making a phone call with clear language and grammar.

    Maui, Hi
All options were exhausted prior to creating this thread. Reached out to the business regarding the situation, I was told they did not make a mistake and I misunderstood the Instagram conversation. After realizing free shipping was not an option, I cancelled my order and we went our separate ways.

Not trying to ostracize anyone. Just wanted to see how others saw it or if this is common practice within the industry. It seems (from opinion) as if their shipping practices are questionable amongst the community and may leave room for future improvement.
I agree, we are all humans and we all make mistakes, but how we right those mistakes is what makes us the individuals we are.

Well that changes things. The OP is not in the continental US, therefore being notified after the fact, exactly as the site states, having to pay $16 shipping is 100% warranted. Had he mentioned "Hawaii" during the online chat, he might have a leg to stand on, but I have to stand by @SDHQ OFFROAD now.

The rep was ambiguous but the website isn’t. If what the rep said didn’t match the website, I’d have clarified.

I’ve also ordered and paid for something in the past and had the company contact me to let me know that unfortunately the automated shipping quote system on the website didn’t take into account ‘x’ thing and unfortunately the shipping cost would actually be ‘y’. It sucks but I usually just decide if I’m okay with paying the actual cost of the item and not the mistaken price I had previously thought it would be and either pay or cancel the order.

On the flip side, if someone gives me a spoken or written quote I am more inclined to want to hold them to it unless they get back to me right away to let me know an error had been made.

In any case, if I had been the company in this situation I would have clarified what the social media rep meant by their statement and asked the customer what they’d like to do. Which is what it sounds like happened here.

They have an odd shipping method but it is pretty clearly stated.

    Jeff
