Am I not being realistic in my search for a tacoma?

hey all, I just wanted some opinions, which I know everyone loves to give so here we go.
I'm searching for a 4x4 tacoma, DSCB, newer than 07, with under 100k.
Im looking to spend an absolute max of about 22k..
at first I wanted TRD and a specific color and what not but I have since given up on that.
I've been looking at the classifieds for a couple of months now. Every now and then something comes up.. Ill see a good deal then realize its an 05-06 which I'm really not interested in due to engine mount problems (hard offloading) and I won't have nearly as good of an interest rate on the loan. Trying not to leave the PNW for the truck but will travel for the right rig.. I have family in tampa but every truck there is a pre-runner lol
I'm selling my current truck within the next couple of weeks and was really hoping to have something lined up.
so back to my original question
is under 100k dcsb <2007 for under 22k not realistic?
    thanks.

You are pretty close. I traded a 2010 dcsb sport with 86000 miles to the dealer in excellent condition, I got 18500 for it and they sold it for 21500

There are plenty around me (DC area) I can post a few here if you want. I got my 2010 ACLB TRD OR with 35k miles for 22,800, on craigslist from a private seller

    Here is one for example:

Your not being un-reasonable. I went through the same issues before I got my 2015. I wanted a Double Cab Short Bed 4x4, 2012 or newer under 30k miles, under $30k, and a TRD (really just wanted the seat)
Its tough but doable, if you can drive a manual (and don't mind doing it). You can always get them cheaper than the automatics. I say use auto trader first since you can spread out the range that it looks at, your going to find that some trucks will have a higher asking price and mileage compared to others, so if you get the leg work in you might be able to get a good deal. I was searching online for all of New England just to get an idea on mileage and cost.
I ended up getting a 2015 TRD Sport Double Cab 6 speed manual with 11,700 miles on it for $30k ($18,900 after trade). Was at the top of what I wanted to pay but since it ticked all the other boxes I am pretty happy with it.
All the dealers are going to tell you that your crazy and need to increase your price or something (or push the whole "what do you want to pay per month" argument). Had one dealer that would not budge at all with negotiations, always wanted me to come up or what I wanted to pay per month so they can screw with the monthly payments.
Dont be afraid to walk away, dealer I ended up buying from didnt want to deal at first and they called me back the next morning coming up to my asking trade price.
    Good luck on your hunt!

Id say your being totally realistic. It's not a dcsb but I just bought myself 2011 aclb 6cylinder 6speed 4wd with 55000 for under 20000 out the door. It took some serious haggling but your goal is definitely obtainable

it took five gruelling months to find the truck at the price I wanted. Patience and not HAVING to get a car right away are your best friends. Btw... I just bought an 06 had my engine mounts checked... They are fine for now. I may have them reinforced soon

Deals are out there, they come and go. You just have to be ready to move quick when you find one.

When you want something very specific, you will wait a while for it.
Just keep looking until you get what you want. You'll appreciate it more once you get it ^_^

When I was looking, I knew I wanted a 4dr TRD Offroad and color wasn't a huge concern. I also wanted a really clean body with no scratches or dents vs. low or high mileage. I would consider your priorities but don't settle for something that is just "ok".

check Nada value for the set up you want. Then find one and make an offer. The market will dictate price

I'm in Kentucky, in my market your criteria would be considered unrealistic. They bring big bucks around here. Like they said, every market is different.

Sounds reasonable to me, here are a couple of hints that have helped me find good deals in the past.

Use Search Tempest to search all of the craiglist cities:
    www.searchtempest.com

Make sure you're using autotrader and set up search alerts.
    www.autotrader.com

I really wish I would have waited for a double cab deal, sometimes the access cab is not very trip friendly...

Woah, should have checked back on the thread sooner. Thanks for all the input, guys.

I'd love to get a manual but they seem to be a little less common.. I'm fine either way so that was another option that I'm pretty lenient on.

Amen to that, I realize that, if I wanted to, I could spend a lot more than 22k on a truck.. But that's still a lot of money to be dropping so I want to make sure I get something perfect (within reason) for me

I bought my 2011 about 6 weeks ago. super clean and only 28K on it. I paid high book on it but I also got high book on my older Silverado. $12K difference is what I borrowed. I'm happy and back in a Toy now.

They are out there and Craigslist will be your best bet. Dealers often list trucks for much less than what the actual sell price will end up being to get you in the door. Then they pile on $2000 worth of fees. You will get far more bang for your buck private party. I picked up my one owner 2010 DCSB TRD OR 6 MT with TRD beadlocks in MINT condition with 100k on it for $18,500 then sold the camper it came with for $650. The deals are out there, just have funds ready and don't be afraid to drive/fly for a deal. I'm sure a local member would take a look at a truck for you as well. I know I'm always down to check out a Tacoma!
