I want to run a C4 bumper (130#) Warn evo s12 (60#) rigid light bar, and six pod lights total (30#), plus synthetic line and shackle (?#) and this will all be on fox 2.5 elite series DSC coil overs with Eibach 650# print. I had shock surplus bump me up from the 600# spring......should i have gone up ONE MORE spring size? what is the max weight the fox 2.5 elite series can handle?

If they are 650 x 14lg springs you should be fine. Assuming you are looking for a reasonable ride height (1-2" over stock).

That C4 bumper is porky...... Mine is like 75 lbs

I have a Pelfrey hybrid bumper, Smittybilt X20 synthetic, steel skids, sliders, etc. Have King 2.5 with 650# springs and Im at a 2.5" lift. I think its pretty comfy. I also considered a 600# spring, but dont want to be too nose heavy in a hard braking situation..

I also have 2" cut from my front fenders, so in reality it should look 2" lower in the front

I told Shock Surplus to set the preload for a 3” lift knowing it will prob settle into a 2.5” over time especially with the added weight

So I'm running the C4 hybrid bumper with a Smitty 10k winch, sliders, and full skids. I recently went with 700# springs on new Kings and they're just about perfect. Only ended up putting a few threads (less than an inch) of preload on the coilovers.

Take your truck to a CAT scale and get it weighed up for the most accurate assessment.

Should've gone to 700#... which is the stock spring rate on 3rd gen.

This is just an anecdote but it's my anecdote --

I have FOX 2.5 PE w/DSCs all 4 corners, 650 lb spring rate up front & Deaver U402 stage III's on back. With +800 lbs of permanently-attached accessories + cargo, pounding the truck fairly hard (30-45 mph) for a continuous 35 minutes of rough, dry forest-road running, in ~90-95ºF ambient summer heat -- when I stopped to get out & check the shock temps the reservoirs were barely above ambient temp.

When we're talking about our specific setups it's all anecdotal brother!

I just beat mine up in Moab for a week and didn't have any issues with them. Just set my adjusters to their softest setting when I was airing down, and stiffened them back up before I got back on the road.

The 2-level adjusters are fantastic, I love being able to dial up or down according to amt of cargo and/or off-road conditions. If I recall correctly I had both levels on the DSCs dialed up to 6 (out of 7 possible) clicks on all 4 corners.

I did 700lbs springs on my Taco. Supercharger +65lbs, hidden winch bumper i forget the weight, warn winch +60lbs, synthetic rope +25lbs. RCI skid plates. Rode great on King coilovers

From my understanding, the 3rd gen's stiffer spring (700#) is shorter than common 2nd gen springs, so they are not apples to apples.

I have a similar weight setup to OP... I had 700#, 600#, and 650# springs on my adjustable King setup... the 700# was way too much. 600# felt great, but one of the coils broke... however, I attribute that to a manufacturing defect. The 650# feels pretty good, and is probably the best bet.

FYI, my shocks were set up with 600# by @AccuTune Offroad.

TW is notorious for prescribing too stiff of springs. And basing it off of the factory spring rate is flawed. Completely different setups.

I'd argue that he's already looking at 235lbs on the front, not including the weight of any skid plates or sliders. Which may very well put him close to 300lbs towards the front end. That's a lot of weight. I think more people make the mistake of throwing on Load E tires that affect the ride much more than the difference between 650 and 700 lbs springs.

Free length of stock springs is immaterial to this discussion involving threaded coilovers. The only relevant point is Toyota deemed the 700# rate a better compromise between ride quality and controlling brake dive/body roll. I had a 2nd gen before and it handled like a boat. I daily a 5th gen 4Runner (which has suspension tuning done around the same era as 2nd gens) and it also handles like a boat.

I had C-rated KO2's with my 700's and it still rode like ass. I'm running E-rated Rugged Treks with the 650's and it's a notable improvement.

I'd recommend starting lighter and working your way up to heavier, if needed.

But hey, every truck is different, along with everybody's expectation.

The real key is to have the tools and know-how to swap coils and adjust the suspension to your own liking. Especially when dealing with performance parts. I've had my shit apart more times than I can count, making various adjustments.

I'm still gonna suggest the 650 pound rate for a 2nd gen. I have zero issues with brake dive/body roll and I'm heavier than just about everyone on this website, lol. My digressive Bilsteins probably help, though. I was finding mixed info on whether the fox 2.5 elites were progressive or digressive in my quick google search.

Get it weighed. If you're under 3000# on the front axle you should be fine with 650# springs.
