    It's getting there.
Man, I think I've been spending too much time on this forum since I got my truck almost 3 months ago. I love my truck, so far it's great. I have an auto and I don't get what everyone is complaining about, it shifts fine to me. I try to listen for excessive wind noise/howling and I'm just not hearing anything at the MPH's people are saying. The stereo isn't the bose set-up I had in my V70R, but where the hell would you put 14+ speakers in an access cab anyway? So many of the complaints I see here are either not a problem on my truck, or just not even a factor to me. Maybe I managed my expectations because when I think 'truck' I'm used to my dad's old K30 or the 10 year old F350 utility bodies at work. Maybe I should hold a closer lense to the thing, and say I paid 35k for this thing it better be perfect! Maybe I've got to get under it and recheck torque on all the bolts, or go grease my driveshaft or something. I dunno, maybe it's honeymoon phase, but I'm satisfied with what Toyota put together for me.

I've had one absolutely brand new car before (a 2010 VW GTI) and I had dealt with a few dealer visits for some TSB's on that. I've had a few cars since then, (mostly in the euro performance scene) and I generally know when shit is not going right. Maybe I'm just paranoid because TW is a bubble of anger from a couple disappointed truck owners, but so far it seems like smooth sailing for me.

At the same time, school me, tell me what to look for, watch out for and think about, because I'd like to keep this truck for a while and I want to make sure I catch the little stuff before it becomes big stuff.

Im in the same boat. Mine is just fine and the shifting is smooth.
I had 3 gen 2s and im liking this one better.
Took a 140 mile trip yesterday that I make a lot. It is a very hilly route and I found it shifted down smoothly on the same hills my 2nd gens did. I had it in cruise.
    Speed limits were 60-65 mph.
The digital mileage matched exactly with what I got manually at 22.7 mpg.
The only problem I had was when I first got it, it tracked poorly (wandered). Discovered the tires only had 28 psig in them. Aired them up to 33 and now it is fine.

I have 510km on mine will have it two weeks this saturday.
So far only thing I've noticed is a slight delay getting into drive from reverse, and a sort of lunge when shifting into drive which I'm thinking is from the cold weather.
I have the whistling LCA which I just went to Lowes and bought some plugs for and did it myself the other day, no more noise.

sound system quality is ok to me, just not loud enough to me (but my hearing is shit so that may be why)

also notice the truck pulls to the right, not sure if this is from tire psi or shitty alignment, dash is saying front right tire is 1psi lower than the others so who knows, just too lazy to get the compressor out and change it. Not a bad pull to the right either just a slight one.

That's the spirit!! Set the bar so incredible low that even a 3rd gen tacoma won't disappoint.

Well, my vote is for crazy, but I don't see where I can cast my vote at. Can you send me an absentee ballot?
Seriously, though, Im with ya. Love my truck so far. Trans don't bug me cause I know what it is doing. Only problem I have is, like you, I came out of a German car and the Nav in this sux. Seating isn't the greatest, but Im adjusting, and the amount of travel in the telescoping and tilt wheel is just stupid.

It's a new truck so parts are probably settling in a bit. Mine had to get an alignment at my first visit. I think that's fairly normal.

which one? there's like 5 of them haha.

I'm thinking at 2000km after break in I'm going to go get oil change, get the transmission fluid checked again (dealer told me they checked but didn't provide paper work so want it chekced again) and any TSB I need I'll see about getting

Love my truck too. Complaints just get posted more often but there are plenty of good trucks out there too.

Just like any other vehicle. Be happy you got a good one.

Agreed on the wheel part. I'm 6 feet tall and my seat is set for someone five inches shorter than me and the steering wheel is pulled to me as close as possible, and it's borderline not close enough. When my wife hops into the driver seat (she's a couple inches shorter than me) she always has to put the seat back because she thinks a midget just drove it.

my legs are long, as are my arms, and even then its taking getting used to sitting this close.
my jetta's wheel came out way more so I was able to sit farther.

    It's getting there.
It's not about dogging on guys with problems, it's more just that I feel there are some complaints that seem a bit unwarranted. Nothing is perfect, and I get that. I thought the radio knobs sucked and my knee does hit the steering wheel sometimes, so I changed the knobs out and I found a more comfortable driving position, it's still not Volvo comfy, but I didn't buy a Volvo. It's still far better than good enough.

Hey, don't knock the ol' girl she's turning 30 and still running strong!

I had the same issue with the shifting. the first TSB fixed it and I've had no issues since.
