SO ive read a ton on the forums about the different suspension options. It all gets confusing because it seems like some setups work for one truck and not the other. I want to play it safe and give myself the best chance of having a great set up that wont cause driving issues like vibrations, poor steering and harsh ride. This is my daily driver and most days I wont be carrying a ton of weight. Budget is around $2500(love it to be less but) installed.
    Thinking
Icon Stage 1( I guess they come set at just over 2 inches)
    Icon progressive aal
LR UCA(is this needed I assume it is)

    What do you think?
What else should I get to ensure a smooth set up
    Break lines?
    Shims?
    CB Drop?
Front Diff drop-Consensus seems like this is not needed.
Any tools that my shop might not have? They do tires and alignment
Wheel setup is stock w 265-75-16 bfg at ko
I was looking at ome but it seems like there sometimes have to be a lot of fiddling to prevent vibrations and harsh ride.

    Thanks

well looking at icons website you want a stage 2(standard coilovers, rear remote resis, progressive aal) and my bro has lr uppers on his fj and love them, very solid product. You cant go wrong with anything youve picked out, wish i woulda waited for my budget to grow before buying toytec front coilovers...

Do I have to worry about a sway bar? With a 2 inch lift?

swaybars can be ran with any amount of lift, you can take them off for more flex offroad or leave it on for a more stable ride onroad

Cool definitely want to leave them on. Do you think shims will be needed with the 1.5 progressive aal

So Ive talked to two places about lifts. The dealership that I bought my truck from and a place called Safari LTD in Grand Junction, CO. Both places recommend the OME setup. Both say they need my truck for 2(this would be a pain) days and The dealership want 2500 and Safari wants 2300(no uca but they say its not needed). Certainly its tempting to go with the dealership because I figure there will be no warranty issues if I go with them. Both prices seem high. Ive called up many retailers
Down South- Suggested OME because I will not be running it fast offroad(said icons are too stiff)
Allpro Offroad- Walker evans but they do not have them in stock
Toytec- First the boss then Icons but hard to say
Lots to think about. Might just hold off and keep the stock setup.

hmm, Allpro is trying to sell you their product, as is toytec, downsouth is probably the only opinion id trust as "objective"

both quotes sound very high for ome, its like 900 for the whole deal (w/o dakars) and shouldnt be more than 5-600 for the install but thats just me..

Thats what I thought. Going to call my local auto shop to see what they will charge me to install. Im not sure I even want the bigger lift the ome will give me. The toyota dealership is saying 1700 for the package(with dakars) and 850 install. I understand they need to make there $$ but its a tough pill to swallow.

New thoughts. Maybe save some cash and go for 5100( At 1.75)all around and progressive aal. Seems like it would give the lift needed and still provide a better ride on and off road ride. If this's is the call is it best to get them with the coils or use stock. Need for uca? Other concerns with this set up?
    Thanks

So what about the lift do you not like? Can you please describe the exact lift that you have and what if any issues you have had with this? Most of my off roading is slower mountain passes or forest roads(can be pretty bumpy). ALso my winter commute is curvy mountain roads with lots of snow. I drive very little highways(nearest interstate is 3 hours away)

    Thanks for all the info
Just trying to sort through everything

nothing is "wrong" with the lift i have, however it could be much better, things such as ride quality suffer slightly when you go cheaper. Deeppowder, i have the toytec ultimate lift kit w/o the adjustable coilovers, so its the 5100s with the eibach coils (620lbs rate) it gave me about 2.5in exactly and rides ok, however there are many better options such as a true coilover (icon/king/fox/ads ect), i would say if your going for a 2500 budget i would go with the icons you originally planned on

Trigger pulled. Well I talked to an offroad shop in Montrose, Co(pretty close to me) We first discussed the 5100 and thats what they thought was a good option. He said the best shock that they install was the 2.5 foxes(im sure they could have done icons but liked the idea of a progressive shox and ive used fox shox on my mountain bike for 20 years). After talking price that's what I went for. Price out the door for 2 inch up front(rear fox reservoir on rear). 1.5 aal is going to be just under 2500 out the door. The same set up with 5100(stock coils) was around 800. Pricing seemed reasonable with labor(he said 3 hrs of labor for everything). Install next Wednesday! I will update with pics and review.
