I mean, I get buying a branded title vehicle if you truly want to keep it for a long time amd the damage is minimal.. but 34k is insane

He's leveraging the popularity of these trucks big time. I'm curious to know what he paid for it

I agree. The problem is that I can't really find anything in the country to compare it to. I found a clean title 2015 with 61k miles, not quite as clean that has a $27500 asking price(private party). Problem is that it has spent it's life sitting next to the ocean and it is 1200 miles away.

I agree. This is all good advice. I might end up just keeping my Frontier and hoping for the best.

Sorry man, it probably is a clean truck, but it's tough out there. Be patient and keep looking

    This.

Talk to your insurance company before buying it, some insurance companies won't insure a salvage title vehicle, no matter how well the repairs were. It could also come back to haunt you if the value of a salvage titled vehicle is far less than a clean titled vehicle in the event of a loss.

I think that the selling price is too much, but it's not my money that you'd be spending.

I'm in a similar boat- I'm looking for a clean, low mileage 5th gen T4R w/ the 'Trail' trim package. They are all priced higher than I would think they should be at, yet ever one disappears before I can even get the stealership to send pics of the chassis.

LOL!!!! "Stealership"...I might be a little slow here but that is the first time I have heard that one.

Yeah, I like everything about this truck. Literally in like new condition. I drove the heck out of it on the test drive. Thing is smooth as can be...but...$34k for a "rebuilt"...like the poster said above..."oof"!

I havent been in the market for a tacoma for awhile but these trucks actually do pop up from time to time for not stupid prices. just gotta get in the habit of checking Craigslist and fb daily. And other sites as well but for local trucks these two are usually best.
every once in a while ill search tacoma up and see a good deal and think to myself “i should buy this!” like i really need a third truck
Everybody’s got a different relationship with money but if life did change or didn’t end up liking the truck as much as you thought i bet you wouldn’t have a great experience reselling a salvaged truck

I think that's the wise idea, you aren't in desperate need presently and I think your current one has some miles left. Just keep tabs on what's out there and view it as an option.

Yeah, just have cash ready and don't wait if one lands in your lap. It happened to me and it will happen to you too if you can wait it out. Don't give up, they're out there, be willing to cross state lines too.

Commented earlier I would be open to the deal, didn't pick up on the salvage title note. That would completely change my decision. I would pass.

I will likely be posting mine soon but one of the guys here has first dibs.

I have about 1/10th the miles and a cap [2015 DCTRD] and it's the OR model but my asking price is going to be priced lower then that and it's never seen a day of winter/salt/snow so the asking price on your may be a bit high as the Sport seems to sell for a bit less then the OR models. [the OR's really do ride considerably better on the road then the sport does but there is more lean]

But a ''salvage rebuild'', that's 10K off right there usually and there may be insurance issues. And if there was any water involved, it's ALWAYS a pass. If it was a T/A, it would likely be a rear end accident that bent the frame rails. A new frame would take care of that IF all swapping over was done with exceptional care.

If you want a Taco I don’t think you need one with 30k miles lol. Buy one with more that was well kempt.

Kinda like buying anything that’s in better condition than you need it to be. Unless your use case is for people to say “wow low miles” this probably isn’t the move.

Absolutely nothing wrong with buying something next to the ocean. I live on saltwater and mine is mint.

EDIT: Would never buy a salvage car unless it’s for track only. Are you nuts?

I had a 2006 Frontier NISMO that made it to 150K before the tranny blew up (known problem that Nissan didn’t seem interested in covering), and had multiple organ failure around 175K. Barely limped in to a local dealer who advertised a 2013 Tacoma SR5 4X4 DCSB just that morning on their website. The deal was done, an though 2 years ago I still feel like I have a new truck every time I drive it.

My 2000 Frontier made it 212K trouble free before I traded it in, so the 2006 was a vast dissapointment.

I rethink the salvage title thing. If, God forbid, you total it out in a wreck, how much would insurance pay you? You would likely take a huge hit.

After reading your thread and going back and forth I would stick with the Nissan for a bit longer and keep looking for the right Tacoma, what's the rush? I personally would never buy a salvage titled vehicle, especially at a premium price! The Tacoma you’re looking at looks great minus all that armor all :) but what did it look like before this guy got it? These guys can work magic making a turd shine, not saying that’s the case but you just don’t know. Good luck in whatever you decide!
