Crawled under my 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 manual v6 today only to realize that the frame is horribly rusted up by the front cab mounts on the inside rails. Am i to late to have the frame replaced on this truck by Toyota? I bought the truck used and thought it had this done already but apparently not.

I am pretty sure you are. I think it is for 11 years from when it was sold.

Alas, yes, you are SOL - the cutoff is actually 12 years from 'date of first service' of the truck. Search this forum for possible next steps you might take.

Perhaps just a bit late for that.

    Yeah, you're right.
He should do nothing and let it rust more.:boink:
Maybe in a year or 5 it will fold in half.

I'm in a similar boat with an 06. They did the spray-coat fix and plugged a couple holes (previous owner but I have the paperwork). I wonder if Toyota's failed attempt would be taken under consideration. Is this the first time OP has addressed the issue?

No, Toyota's "failed attempt" is all you get. See this thread

I will say this. I live in northern New England, where they are not shy about putting crap-tons of salt/brine/you-name-it on the roads - must think of the skiers! I had a couple of Ford Rangers and a Chevy S-10 in my miss-spent youth. The frames on these things lasted for about 10-11 years before failing inspection. It's not just Toyota that makes rust-prone frames...

If you would have suggested to your Ford or Chevy dealer that perhaps they ought to give you a new frame after 10 years (or any years), you would have been laughed out of the shop. I find Toyota's 12 year policy quite generous. It's kinda sad that some people (particularly buyers of used tacos) don't hear about it until too late, but sometimes it seems that life is unfair. :-/

^^^ I agree with this above. I wonder how many people end up on TW simply because they did a google search for rusty Tacoma frame after they just bought one.

Toyota tech here, pretty sure our frame recall cutoff is up to 2009 as of now. anything below that is out

I understand what you're saying completely. My beef specifically is the blatantly incorrectly applied "remedy" and the subsequent lack of accountability or responsibility for it. Not to mention, my truck lived its whole life minus the last winter in Ohio, not the NEK.

I am in just the situation. I bought a used Tacoma with a rotten frame but since its an 01 I was denied by Toyota proper for any replacement. Although my truck is older than yours I wouldn't be surprised to hear you got the same answer as I did. I hope your repairs aren't nearly as expensive as mine (paying everything out of pocket) and best of luck.

I had no delusion that I'd get a new frame slapped on, just disappointed the "fix" appears to be little more than paint job. A little poking around and comes off in sheets.

I understand the frustration. I am curious if this issue is exclusive to Toyota or if other manufacturers are similar in how they handle major defects.

Do you honestly think Ford, GM, FCM, etc. would do anything for a 20 year old vehicle? With them, you're SOL after 3 years or 36,000 miles - period.

Toyota owners manuals state clearly to rinse road salts off undercarriage regularly.
