I'm almost 62. I took "computer science" classes (through University of Louisville) while in high school.....in 1973. Granted, the computer terminal I learned on was as big as a semi trailer.... and was slow in a manner you can't fathom these days, but none the less.... (Trivia question; Anyone out there know what an "IBM card" is?)

My son is 42.....He built his own computer while still in elementary school.

A close friend I used to race dirt bikes with held a patent for one of the first successful commercially marketed semi-conductors (Sold to RCA Victor...Ever heard of them?) That was in 1949. He is now 90.

A common problem with "people UNDER 30" is, they think that they invented technology and us "old folks" lived in caves until they led us old fogies out of the darkness. We taught you a great deal of what your generation knows. We just haven't got around to teaching you everything WE know as of yet.

Computer punch cards when I took computer science were technically referred to as Hollerith cards. IBM APL (A Programming Language) was out by the early 70's and punch cards were mainly used as aperture cards with the metadata stored on the card. All branches of the military used them widely last century. In the private sector many blueprints were stored on them.

Of course the blueprint was first made using ammonia before the microform image was created, Blue I bet you can also still smell ammonia when you look at a blueprint

How can one not think of RCA Victor and not think of Nipper the RCA dog.

I didn't fall off the turnip truck last night and I am the Technical Specialist for the Enterprise Content Management Systems. Kids are afraid of the command line today, drop to a shell son. But they always want to have that graphical user interface to point and shoot that mouse. Then again at the command line you have to know what your doing, no guessing.

61 soon and still shooting grouse off the beaten path with the dog, don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
