Picked up a Baofeng F8-HP for HT/Spotter use today. Plus an APRS cable for it and a better battery and antenna.

Also, anyone with a Yaesu FT8900 have the dimensions of the faceplate detached?

For anyone with an Ailuance HD1, the H103ML Mic has been a great upgrade. Time will tell how it holds up.

Not that the volume had been hard to copy since the firmware update, but the speaker mic gives plenty of room to adjust the volume to whatever someone may find suitable. Very pleased.

The clip is a sturdy 8 position clip that stays put. It had an easily accessible mic port for headphones on top. Grabbing the mic with the right hand is a very comfortable fit, and with my natural left hand is acceptable and no more inconvenient than other handed mics. Overall I'm initially very pleased with this affordable addition.

Have you used the TYT MD2017 or Anytone 868UV ? I'm curious how it compares. I didn't like the TYT. Still getting to know the Anytone.

I looked at the tyt. It was a close second. It's been awhile, but I believe I found the front panel programing to be more fluid with the HD1. But I did like that the md2017 seemed to be another radio with more thought towards hams than commercial use.

The batteries for mine just became available so I ordered an extra one last night. The joys of buying a newly released radio, lol. Almost ordered a speaker mic along with it. Then I got to thinking about another antenna with a little more gain for the area I"m in. Got tired of looking and trying to decide and just paid the $10 shipping and got the battery and belt clip. On mine the clip is attached to the battery so you have to order one for each battery.

I am participating with Troop 501 in Medina, OH. We're planning to have three HF stations (all IC-7300's), a DMR station (MD380), and a VHF/UHF station (FT-8900). We have N3FJP JOTA logger installed on a few laptops and plan to have one log shared via WiFi. We have ~16 scouts signed up, and some parents are interested as well.

My friends and I do a lot of portable contesting, so we're treating this like a small contest such as Field Day. The scout troop owns a small cabin on a few acre property. We're developing a relationship where if we do JOTA for them, then they let us use the cabin for Winter Field Day.

I ran a Laurel VE session for the troop last year and licensed 4 scouts. As a side activity this year, I'm going to show them how to acoustically couple a cell phone to a portable (HT) to send SSTV images. Using Android apps Robot36 for recieve and SSTV encoder for sending. I assume there are iOS equivalents.

I second this. I have the mic and it's well made. I picked it up for $14 on Amazon and it's amazing.

I considered the MD2017 as well. If it weren't for that damn track ball, I think I would have bought it.

Seemed like one of the old Nokia phones that had the trackball . Or blackberry. I blame Wayne for the purchase. Haha.

Actually it's been great for me traveling wise. The manual entry takes two seconds from the front pannel. Works great for the Zumspot as well. I've had contacts invite me over to a state channel for rag chew and I can just punch it real quick into the contacts and I'm there.

That's awesome, glad to hear that you was able to hook you up. I may be looking into one of the HD1's. It sound like a great radio. He was really selling hard it when I bought my MD-9600 from him.

I travel from Hooksett to Nashua everyday. If you ever want to meet up and borrow it, feel free. It's got the multiple user function. I've got 310, 311, region, NA, WW, NH, VT, CT, ME, MA, AL and GA programmed into my zumspot zone already
