We found on our rigs that if we didn't install the magnet on the mic it still stayed solid but didn't require Thor's strength to remove it.

Well, in about a month it’s going to be someone else’s problem anyway for them. They did this before they even gave us the new truck from the radio shop. Seems we don’t have any input around there anymore like we’ve had the previous 20 years.

I bought just the magnetic mic button part for the rear and then some mount from Etsy as the base. Good stuff.

Yeah, it's way too strong. I added a disc of sticky backed closed cell foam that is about .125" or so and it's way better. I think rubber would be even better.

New Yaesu FT8900 goes in this weekend! Finally gonna be able to dual monitor!

Also need to pick up a few shorty antennas that I can run for a DD setup. Garage at the house I am buying isn't tall enough for a 42" whip without folding it over.

Where's it mounted? I've got a 90* swivel on mine and just lay it down flat when I pull In

Up on the Prinsu, forward of the x-wing. It fits fine folded over, just I know I am gonna get annoyed having to do that twice a day to and from work.

I'd prefer to just keep them shortys, but IDK, maybe I will need to.

Hey Marteen, its going bud, thank you so here is a pic of the truck below. I have a baja rack on top and looking to purchase the following
    1. Scorpion mobile antenna. https://www.scorpionantennas.com/mobile-antenna_c_18.html
    2. Breedlove folding mount with a quick disconnect. https://www.breedlovemounts.com/short-scorpion-fold-over-mount.html

The thought process is to have it mounted on the roof rack and be able to fold it and/or quick disconnet when i need to.

My main issue is i am clueless on bonding and how to properly ground it and hook up everything.

I have a dual batteries (odyssey) under the hood a set up from genysis offroad.

If I wanted to do a radio test would I do that on 146.520 to get the best odds of having a response or should I hit up one of the local repeaters? I've never actually keyed up before and want make sure my radio is working properly.

I'd just key up a local repeater. Best if you hear others already on there or one with a beep.

I would use a local repeater. At least in my area 6.52 is totally dead

yeah I've never heard anyone on it and I've been monitoring it for a few days. I was just wondering if by using a repeater if that would kind of defeat the purpose of the radio check....since it would be the repeater sending the signal. But I guess if my signal is jacked then the repeater will send it the same way....I think I just answered my own question.

You either aren't gonna hit it at all, or if you do and it's jacked, more people will be able to tell you as much.

Could also find a friend and a baofeng to test. That's what I do. You can even "self test" with a baofeng. Set the receive screen color to a different setting than resting/transmit, and place it a little ways away. When you key up on a common freq, you can see it change color. Won't tell you how the audio is, but at least you know you are getting out.

I like this idea. Is there any way you pick a frequency to test on?

146.520 is the common freq. I use 146.460 since it tends to not get used a lot.
