I've built a couple, it's a fun build. It's cheaper to buy them from him then to buy the parts.

I'm going to build a dual band one out of SO-239 chassis connectors.

I found a pdf online called "Practical Antenna Design". Only covers vhf antennas.

Equipment: Yaesu FT-857 D and baofeng UV-82 HP
Antenna: Larsen nmo2/70b (uhf/vhf) and Nagoya NA-320A Triband HT Antenna for the baofeng.

I am new to the ham radio scene, by new is trying to figure out on using and installing the equipment. Planning on getting the scorpion HF antenna but before i do want to play around the uhf/vhf so that i am acquainted with the equipment functions.

That being said, i have not installed the yaesu yet because i am not sure what cables/grounding wires i need for the antenna. So reaching out for advice on what to use and best practice on wiring from everyone's experience. I dnt have a problem reading theough material if thats the case but looking for some direction on that.

    Thanks:thumbsup:

Got tired of my mic always either being in the way or falling off from wherever I hung it, so I broke down and spent $40 on this mag mount. Pretty slick looking, hopefully it works

We use that same mount at work on the ambulance. Works great. You feel like you’re ripping the center console off when you pick it up. Lol

We just switched over to those at work as well. For our purposes (cop cars) it is a solution in search of a problem, but whatever. Make sure you install the button on the mic with loctite, cause it likes to loosen up. Use bolts and lock nuts to install the base, with the included screws it loosens up quite fast as well.

We found on our rigs that if we didn't install the magnet on the mic it still stayed solid but didn't require Thor's strength to remove it.

Well, in about a month it’s going to be someone else’s problem anyway for them. They did this before they even gave us the new truck from the radio shop. Seems we don’t have any input around there anymore like we’ve had the previous 20 years.

I bought just the magnetic mic button part for the rear and then some mount from Etsy as the base. Good stuff.

Yeah, it's way too strong. I added a disc of sticky backed closed cell foam that is about .125" or so and it's way better. I think rubber would be even better.

New Yaesu FT8900 goes in this weekend! Finally gonna be able to dual monitor!

Also need to pick up a few shorty antennas that I can run for a DD setup. Garage at the house I am buying isn't tall enough for a 42" whip without folding it over.

Where's it mounted? I've got a 90* swivel on mine and just lay it down flat when I pull In

Up on the Prinsu, forward of the x-wing. It fits fine folded over, just I know I am gonna get annoyed having to do that twice a day to and from work.
