Have you looked for local nodes (hotspots) to give Wires-X a try? https://www.yaesu.com/jp/en/wires-x/id/active_node.php <--- this is updated quite a few times daily; hopefully, there's one nearby that you can hit.

Congrats to you! My FT-60 is on the way. I also started studying for General and plan to take that next month.

Congrats to you as well! You're really going for it aren't you?

When I took the element 2 and passed, they offered to let me take the element 3 as well free of charge. I had briefly looked at a practice quiz and noped out of there.

They asked me if I wanted to try it, but like you I bowed out. Right now I have residual knowledge from the first test and time to study every day. If I wait a few months I won't have either. ;)

Best of luck to you. I'm tempted to try for it as well now. I know a buddy of mine is doing his tech on June 1, he might be a bit peeved if I show up for the general.

When I got mine, I planned to take the general at the same time and studied together. I found it rather easy, as they tied together. One test day and done. I still haven't planned to go any further. I think the general is the most useful.

I have and was able to hit one but could not connect to any of the rooms. I think it may be a reception issue as I was a good distance from the node (mobile rig). I'm able to get a list of all the rooms but once I select one, it just continues to blink. Thanks for the link; I'll continue to search for a nearby node.

Sweet -- getting the "list" is good -- shows that your request got to the server and was replied to ( so full path your TX to node, node to web-to server and all the way back to your RX). Nice work.

Digital does get picky about not only strength but S/N ratios as well, so "cleaner" and "stronger" might be all ya need -

A few folks will map the active node list, but... I've found the maps to be less reliable/accurate than going right to the source.

I may just have to buy the new one if that happens. It wouldn’t take much more than a firmware update and larger screen from the NX-5700 series and they would have DMR radio along with it.

Well, setting up to get a HD-1 hopefully from a buddy. Super excited to learn some stuff on the DMR side and play around with hotspots.

Thanks! I have a good idea where the node is located (about 39-miles from my home). As I progress toward it in the early morning on my way to work when the noise level is low, I'll ping it and I'm then able to connect to it after I crest some high ground. At this point I suspect I'm approximately 19-miles from the node. I'll keep trying, searching for other nodes, but eventually I'll create my own hotspot in the shack. Hmmmm, I see Yaesu might soon release the FT 3DR HT. Pairing it with the Shark RF OpenSPOT 2 might make a good pairing...
