I have been looking into that, everything I have searched has been taken, and imagination is running low

My guess, FWIW, is that you have an electrical power issue. How's the battery?

I can't wait for Yaesu to catch up with Kenwood and make full duplexing radios. That's my biggest turn-off to the ft3.

Sounds like wiggling wires at all the connections would be a good place to start

Is wiggling the correct term here?

I personally would have went with jiggling.

That's a pretty sweet CW call though.... You can crank that one up to 45wpm and it's still going to be easy to pick out.

You can roll mine off the tongue pretty quick: KD7TRD.

Nancy 5 Whiskey Over Ice though. That one is pretty clever.

The off/on cycling almost sounds like a capacitor charging and discharging.

But only when the truck is off, dispels that theory.

This is why I don't do SSB.

N4OX (buddy who knows I hate phone) called me in a phone contest using the phonetics "Nachamichi four octogenarian xylophone"

Having no clue WTF that stood for and no patience to sit and try to figure it out, I just said qrz and moved on.

By chance, is it connected through a relay?

As long as we are on the subject. How exactly is it connected to power?

as in what is between the radio and the power source and what is the power source?

Guys, this isn't my hangout and I know this isn't a sell thread, but I have two small Motorola Astro XTL 5000 Digital Mobile Roof Antennas left over from my ham radio install ( was professionally installed ). I'm not looking to make money off of them ( just looking to cover shipping ), but I'd rather get them to someone who actually knows how to use them and can vs. me tossing them into metal recycling at work.

Let me know if someone wants to take these off my hands.

Well sometimes wiggling leads to jiggling haha
Is it right after you shut the truck off? What about trying a capacitor In there? Sounds like you might be pulling the voltmeter out for this one

I've been mostly lurking and have posted a few insignificant morsels of nothingness in this thread, but I guess I'll introduce myself since I'm in here.

KM6EIM, Tech class. Got it 2-ish years ago. I'm not nearly as "into" the hobby as a lot of guys, I have a very simple outlook on stuff and don't like to get carried away with hobbies. I'm only using 2m (mobile and handheld) at present. I listen a lot, talk very little, and I like to tinker around but I'm not interested in building my own antennas or stuff like that. I honestly probably use extended receive to keep an ear on local FD/PD stuff more than I use the 2m bands.

Radios are a Icom IC 2730 mated to a 1/4 wave in my 4R, a (coming soon, it's in the mail) Kenwood TM281 mated to a 1/4 wave in my Taco (hoping it fits in the pocket under the cig lighters in a mt '06), and 2 Kenwood THK20 handhelds. I have 5/8 wave base loads I use for longer range stuff but around town the 1/4 waves are fine, and garage friendly. Antennas are on trunk lip NMO mounts on the hood. Simple and efficient, kind of my mantra.

    My 4R setup:

I have some 'DX Engineering Bucks' that are set to expire on Sunday (5/19). It's $20. Anyone going to order from them between now and Sunday? PM me for the number. Free of course. Just paying it forward.

Congrats! The FT-60 is a very simple radio to use. It can be programmed so simply just from the panel. Tons of YouTube videos out there as well, and a group on groups.io. Have fun!!

They put them in firetrucks, these are the all aluminum versions that last forever. You can find them used on Ebay every so often for $20-30 or so. That one is the 18" neck, 5w halogen, with rheostat. They make like a million versions.
