"down the street figuratively" besides I already use those, but so does everyone and their brother. I should be in good shape with studying, just need to schedule my online exam. My local group isn't offering online testing because they don't think it can be done and maintain the sanctity of the organization. Lucky for me and many others Anchorage has been giving online testing (because Alaska dude) since 2014 and other states have opened up to the current times.

Yeah some of the questions are funky. Just remember that with that question remote is in reference to location. I can drive to a local repeater site. My Rc vehicles only work line of site. But I can use an internet station in Hawaii from NH.

And good luck with your test. Just for that reason I studied the answers and just took the test. The amount of stuff I researched for my own personal use far exceeds what the test covers. The test and study books just lets you know those things exist basically.

If you get comfortable with the tech test just take a gander at the general test too. Don't get overwhelmed because a lot of this stuff you have zero reason to know before looking at the guides. Just glance through. Study 1 small section of 12 questions at a time.

If you pass the tech, you get a free crack at the general. Just take it, you've got nothing to lose and it's not like the VE's will snub you for not doing good on the general test. They don't care. They're actually hoping you pass.

Good luck and let us know if you get hung up on anything. Lots of guys on here are a wealth of information and perspective

Even though I may hate the question or answer or explanation those will probably be the ones I remember the most.. There is quite a lot of this that I know from other research I've done and other electrical hobbies that I have but there is for sure some obscure stuff that you would only know after reading the guides or taking the test. I think the best approach is to read the question and answers and then read between the lines a 2nd or 3rd time. I have clicked answers to questions that I knew out right and got it wrong because the answers listed all could be right except for one minute detail. The hamstudy.org approach is pretty nice, if you get a question wrong there is an explanation of the right answer and then they recycle the same question back to you a few questions later, there are also metrics. I ended up clicking through questions for a couple hours yesterday.

I had big success using phone apps. I just Ed studied the correct answers and got right through. Half the stuff you don't even know what it is til your start using it. Haha

Second that you only have to know it for a day. But knowing that a problem or solution exists will be what's important. I don't remember most of the stuff from my Extra, but I remember that concepts exist and now I know the resources to find the answers to my questions as I build a project.

Can you guys give me a clearer picture of the exam? How many questions for Tech, General? How long should I schedule a proctor for, is there a time limit?

Tech and general exams are both 35 questions. Takes about 15-30 min (per exam) depending on how well you know your stuff. They will most likely grade it on the spot and let you know if you passed or failed.

Once you are done if you passed they will have you fill out a sheet to be sent to the FCC for submission for call sign and what not.

^ pretty much wraps it up.

Also, no time limit. The tech will be pretty straight forward. If your not a test taker and it is a it rough, no worries. I know guys that bonked a test and took it the next weekend and aced it. Sometimes it's just mental. I studied for both my tests on my lunch breaks. That's about the level of effort the first two take. The extra is the nut cracker
