I don't do the Facebooks so I can't watch the video. EFHW vs. CFDP vs. OCFDP vs. ... It's too much!

I can make you one. Don't buy one. I use one weekly. And it's way more rugged.

No luck for me tonight. My transportation only has 2.5m AM radios. I did just raid an old abandoned hangar though. Found some RG-8 and a ground plane antenna.

My other Love.... Aviation, I wasn an A&P mech in a different life. Just industry was so strict on finding what they wanted, i never fit their wanted experience. And never find anyone who would give me the experience. I should go to my toolbox and look at my certificate.

Sure not that way anymore. Mechanics are needed everywhere. I'm an A&P also. Going to Robinson Helicopter School this fall and maybe getting my IA before that. It's a kind of addicting career though it isn't always comfortable or easy. I fly and wrench for a small 135 charter company flying people and boxes. It's fun and I don't plan to go to jets anytime soon. That photo was the inside of a Quest Kodiak. Fun plane to land short on rough places.

I figured with everything being shutdown and there hasn't been much to do, I would go ahead and install my radio while waiting for the chance to take the test. Sorta like dangling a carrot in front of a horse to make me study and get ready for the test. I've done everything EXCEPT run the power harness so I'm just staring at the mike and faceplate every time I get in the truck. Now mostly waiting on in person testing to open up. I know they have opened up on-line testing but with my internet service the option isn't really trustworthy. In a couple months we're are supposed to have a different supplier available but they have run into some issues which have really slowed them down.

With all that said, what's the best and/or easiest route to take for the power harness in a 2nd Gen? I say the easiest because I'm an old fart with a bad back and arthritic hands making it hard to maneuver in awkward or tight areas. I've attempted to get a good look under my dash to find a route to/through the firewall that would be easy on me but the possible locations don't appear to line up with a grommet I've seen on the firewall. I know I'm probably looking right at the best location but just not seeing it. Any information or photos would be greatly appreciated.

I ran my power in through the main grommet behind the parking brake. Crammed a screwdriver through the grommet towards the engine bay, taped the wire to it and pulled it through the firewall from inside. Easy peasy.

That's the way I was looking, just hard to get my back in position. . . guess it's time for a visit from my son.
