Well. With elevation comes great responsibility. Holy I could hear everything with the contest today from here

 

I picked up a yaesu FT-1802M for 40 bucks my antenna and power cable will be here Tuesday but i did power it up today and it came on and functioned but of course no antenna so I didn't hear a thing lol

 

I hope you didn’t hit the transmit key. That’s an easy way to burn out the finals in the radio.

 

Yeah it did key the mic when it fell in the engine compartment Just a few seconds just a temp hookup to see if it powered on and it worked so I took it all back and put it back in the box i am waiting till tuesday to set it up as a base to just listen for the time till I get my license so it should be fine at least I can fix stuff so that's a good thing lol

 

You can make a j pole antenna, I've made one from an old piece of cable tv coax or old school roof top antenna cable. It will be ok for a temp setup to listen in.

 

I've got a whole bunch of cable coax that I've ripped out of my house. I may have to look at this.

 

Try this, used the antenna cable from my rooftop antenna I took down a few years ago. I was able to hit the repeater about 30? Miles away.

Best practice, really. If the guy is having problems and isn't following best practices, then that's a good place to start.

Keep in mind, it's BEST practice. Good enough practices work really well most of the time. But I'm just some clown on the internet, what the hell do I know.

How's the road wobble on that mount? Aluminum? Stainless? Mild steel?

 

it's still a perfectly good radio, the seat was just full. Hit a repeater 89mi away with it not on a peak.

 

TBD, mild steel. The phone doesn't wobble on-road, off-road is a different story obviously.

 

ive had a few of those HTs, always ended up give away. Always kept my SignalStick antenna...

It would look good in my '94 Toyota pickup. Not enough space on the floor for my Chinese HT so I need a dash mounted radio.
