LOL I was just in the same situation as you!! I have a Comet SSB5 which works great but... there is a black Friday sale going at Signalstuff right now. Plus I wanted to try the 1/4 wave antenna on the Taco. Congrats on the Larsen they look like really nice antennas! I mean look at it this way. You should always have a backup antenna just incase something bad happens to the one you use on your rig. Why? Well because shit happens.

I bang that Larson on everything, since in mounted in the center of the roof. Just wanted something different. I actually have the Larson 2/70B, and extra wip, and now I have the Signal Stalk coming.

Kinda want one of those massive Aussie sticks that Ronny Dahl recently reviewed. But not sure how well it'd do mounted down on the flat of my bumper.

I would always go with a higher gain. They never talked about the wavelength of the antenna for the freq. Which also plays a factor into being heard.

More useless antenna BS from my brain...

Just realized, there are weird old guys on 80m SSB at night. I think I'll stick to 40m or CW.

Not entirely sure. I was just surfing through. I think it was the higher end of the band. Some guy was singing and not well. Seemed like his VOX was on and he didn't realize it. But other guys were on too so maybe it was a local net.

Oh shit you are right. That is some nasty stinky booty right there! Since it is a new product they said something about paying and being on a wait list but now I do not even see that as an option?

Call sign N4GDF, although I haven't used it in a very long time. My Dad was a fanatic, I grew up going to Hamfests on weekends and camping out every field day. Coolest memory was helping him install an antenna on the roof of the Pentagon.

How cold does it get at your location? My friend had the Sti-co VHF antenna, and it gets a little "droopy" in the cold. The Sti-co is made from the same material. It's awesome I'm the summer!! But he swaps it out for a stainless 1/4 wave for the winter.

80m can be a challenge for a mobile antenna. However 80m is pretty reliable, in this part of the solar cycle. It's the only thing that works for NVIS right now. 40m has a skip zone. That should start changing soon though.

My dad was a CB freebander back in the day. He was telling me silly stories about radio terrorists in Phoenix over Thanksgiving. This was his base setup. Tube amp and a highly modified rig. 20201126_095745.jpg

I though about absconding with it and making it a true 10m radio. I have too many projects right now though.
