I noticed they only come in single band models. I have used UHF so few times I can't actually remember making a contact on it. Is that price tag for dual band or single band setup? For that price, I imagine you could get a fantastic all mode, all band amateur-only radio.

Yes it's spendy for sure - that price is for 2m only, and it doesn't include an antenna or antenna mount. If you want a UHF deck as well, it's another US$438. I am not keen on having decks under both the driver and passenger seats.

My local repeaters are 1) Yaesu C4FM (digital) only, no analog and 2) analog FM only. So it makes more sense for me to buy a Yaesu FTM-300 or FTM-400 for sure. But I am on a Facebook group of FTM-400 owners and there are a lot of unhappy people in it. And the Kenwood head seems to be less tall, will obscure less of the view out the windshield when mounted on my Taco Garage DMM rail.

I'd like to play with it. Been keeping an eye out for an Airspy or an SDRPlay. But.. I just bought an MFJ QRP tuner so I better mind my manners for a few weeks before the wife finds out. https://mfjenterprises.com/products/mfj-9201. Good to 100w and I'm always barefoot.
Still waiting for my QCWmini to show up and I'm shopping for D710G. Too many things taking my money. Oh yeah, and just ordered four new tires for my Tacoma. 235/85r16 Grabber A/TX.

I was looking at one for DMR locally. They are single bands but you can use multiple band brains on a single remote head with them. They’re really nice radios. Even at wholesale price I just wasn’t sure I wanted to spend that much on a DMR only radio for the truck.

I put up a "wanted" add on the QRZ Swapmeet page for a TM-D710G. In less than 24 hours, a guy came back with a photo. Got a price. Sending a check out on Monday. He's got credible reviews so I have no concerns about him not following up. Bought the 710 with RT software for the same price I sold the FT-400 for. Good enough for me.

In other news, I have have a repeater setup to access my local repeater system. While testing it, I got ping-ponging between the systems. Anyone know how to solve this? I don't have a squelch hang-time setting on my system, it's a couple of KT-8900 Chinese radios. The manual is really bad Chinese/English. Maybe I should wire in a PTT delay for the radio that accesses the repeater network? Kind of like a kerchunk killer?

Not cross-banding. Same band, two radios, two antennas, 600khz split. Testing locally without accessing the repeater system they work fine. Once one radio is setup to access the repeater system, it starts a tx/rx cycle at about .5 to 1 hz.

Watched First Man (Amazing movie btw) with the woman last night. There is a scene when Neil Armstrong is studying and shares with his wife and she responded with "That's interesting..." and they both started laughing. My woman turned to me and said "Hey that's kinda like when you share details about HAM radio". Little did she know I was about to explain why they used the frequencies that they did...
