Any one got any knowledge of the wuoxun uvd3? I having an operator error :anonymous:

My wouxon doesn't seem automatically step when TXing. When running simplex this weekend, I had to switch to a station 5 up from my friend to communicate. He was on 441, and I had to go to 446 for it to work. I image this is a settings error on my part, but I am not sure how or why. It might explain why on most of the repeaters I am unable to communicate (I can hear just fine, but no one can hear me). That happens on 95% of the repeaters I have programmed. I have only used the free software to program this HT and then I was just filling in the fields as I got them from the local repeater association's website. Any thoughts?

Don't know about how you have the repeaters programmed I would assume the software would automaticly program the appropriate offsets for the repeater pair.. silly question but do you have the right pl tones programmed as well?

As far as the simplex mode, maybe your offset is not matching. You should have 5khz for the offset. Are you using the wuoxun software or the commander software?

    Commander software.

I thought I had all the tones right. I am going to start from scratch. Reset the HT, and reprogram the repeaters. Maybe only do a few and test it out.

That or buy a ft-8800r :) although I still need to figure out the HT thing.

If anything, there are plenty of topics and YouTube videos in regards to programming the wuoxuns..

I bought my g/f the same one that you have..had it for almost two years now without any issues, has been great despite me always dropping it lol

Yeah, been around the Internet a time or two, most of those videos are unboxings and a demo of turning it on and off. Most of the forums are either people complaining about it or swearing to name their first born after it. I have the manual and have programed it, I have used the wuoxun software, crap, and the commander software, free.

What I was hoping for, was anyone with a suggestion as to what is going on. I am more than willing to bet that I did something at some point to cause this phenomenon, but I just don't know what.

So, I have reset the thing to factor, it spoke in tongues when I turned it on. Now I am waiting on my damn win-vm to update so I can try programming it again. I redownloaded the commander software as apparently this vm didn't have it, I should stop blowing up vms. SHould be able to give it a go tomorrow when there is a little more traffic.

I won a Baofeng HT at a ham fest and I sympathize with you it has got to be one of the most frustrating radios to program I have every owned. Mine had no software and you have to program every thing it does not respond to automatic offsets. Maybe the software takes care of that but I'm going to guess you have to tell it to offset for each channel. You'll also need to input the PL tones(encode) or you won't get past the repeaters squelch.

Thanks, I am thinking you are right, I will need to program the offset manually. I will try that tonight.

A few of my friends have recently got their hands on the baofengs and they are raving about them lol. I guess few 35 bucks shipped I would be to hehe

Yes that is pretty common step default. The Baofeng works and it's $200 less than a real one but it would not be something I would buy it's not a radio that you can program on the fly with any ease. If it's already done with software and you have no need to change anything and you never drop it, it fills a nitch. There is no doubt once in your hand it is made out of Chinaesum. One of my concerns is its wide banded and can be programed out of the amateur bands by any one including FD and PD. I think the FCC dropped the ball on certification they never allowed the big 3 to do that. Telling someone in the instructions you can’t do that is just an invitation to do so.

Well, the vm I am running is win8. SO the drivers for the wouxun usb cable doing work. They use a Chinese knockoff Prolific chip, so I am stuck programming it manually until they get around to updating the drivers.

Damn windows and it's security changes between 7 and 8!!!! I tried the only work around that google could find for me, but it didn't work. I might still have an xp vm somewhere on this machine, but I bet it needs 3 days to run all the damn updates before I could use it.

Got it working, at least the radio is reprogrammed, will see if I can get to the repeaters when traffic slows down.

For any Mac users, chirps is now supporting wouxon. Have to find the right drivers, but finally got my drivers working. just d/l a local repeater csv file from 4x4ham.com and flashed it up to the radio. Took a day, but it is working.

I have hear that "chirp" works well for the Baofeng also, much better then the provided program. As soon as I get another USB cable I'll try it the first one came completely apart as I unplugged it leaving the guts in the USB port and the plastic cover and the wires in my hand.

That sucks, I did notice that Baofeng was on chirps' supported list. Worked well for me once I figured out the copy/paste/delete/etc.

I am still really toying with ordering an 8800r, almost did it on Monday.

Why the TM71a over the 8800r?

Programming software is free from Kenwood and is supposed to be great and easy to use. And from the reviews I have read cross band repeat is easier to setup and use. The main deciding point will probably be that the 8800 does not have backlit keys. Both seem to be great radios and its a hard choice.

I can understand the back lite keys, I have debated that myself. chirps supports both of those radios, so software is free. I like the idea of one program for all my radios. Don't know if 71 comes with the cable or not. But I know the separation kit is included in the 8800r, about a $50 savings.

They are almost the exact price, so I guess it really just comes down to personal preference. I didn't know if there was something else I wasn't seeing about one or the other.

Don't you have to buy the level converter (programming cable) to use the Kenwood software? Icon,Kenwood or Yeasu you can't go wrong. Personally I like the Yeasu for remote mounting it uses a simple 3 pair flat phone wire no fancy nesting hardware. The Yeasu does not have backlit keys but you can program the mike buttons to do pretty much any thing you want. I own some form of Kenwood's, Icom's, and Yeasu's they are all good radios I have only had one issue and it was a Kenwood the display died. If you intend to cross band use low power or if it has mid power you can use that. When you cross band it is a 100% duty cycle it is all ways transmitting as long as there is traffic and it will get HOT.
