You have to take the exam in person at a designated event. They post dates and locations on the website. There is usually a few a month across the whatever state you'll be in. That is because a group of at least three "Elmers" needs to witness your exam. The tech licence is super easy and it costs I believe around $15. You get a retake and if you pass, you can take the following level for free.

Sorry, comet heavy duty lip mount with a Chinese jetstream dualband, I figure if it get smacked good I'm not out a whole lot, and it works well. The other is the cb 2 ft firestick II with heavy duty spring mounted on relentless fab hood hinge mount. I used to have a 3' but I went with the 2 foot for the trail. I also have a rubber dual band for the trail but the gain sucks so I don't run that unless it's really tight on a trail. I just got a bamf tailgate mount I would like to mount my cr8900 quad band, but I would like to find a spring for it if they make one for a uhf mount?

Anyone seen a Fender antenna mount for 2nd gen? im not too impressed with the hood mount ones. It needs a excellent DC & RF ground for the antenna to radiate correctly. I have a NMO in the top center of cab, but i take off the antenna during the week, because i have to park in the parking garage @ work. So no Vhf/Uhf during the week. :(

The relentless hood mount is grounded very well, could you explain more. Maybe I don't understand grounding correctly.

Just got my BAMF antenna mount and installed it.

On another note, my mag mount antenna is missing. Cable looks cut at the spot it went into the cab. I may have to order the CBI hood mount for APRS.

And whips are god......, I've done my research too and personal application shows that I can operate from great distance with great clarity on 2M using a hood bracket mounted antenna. If I were trying to work dx in my truck I'd be more concerned but for the average amateur operator it's not required and anything is better than a handheld in your wheeled ferrite cage

I plan on getting a vanity, just can't think of anything that strikes me as purely awesome.

I got my ham a bit ago, kind of for multipurpose. One, for off road and end of the world type communications. As well as using for my multicopter, like using 1.2ghz for video feed and such
