I recently got my first Tacoma ('01 ext cab 4x4). I want to put 33s on it but don't want to spend a lot of money on expensive lift kits. I don't do crazy off-roading besides a few trails here and there. Also, I don't mind a little bit of rubbing at full lock since I can deal with it. I am also planning on getting some steel black wheels if anyone has options for me (not too much $$). I was looking at the rough country 2.5" lift (I know it's not loved by many guys here) but I don't have much money and I have been busy with schooling. Thanks.

I paid $280 for my simple lift on my 05, and I did the work myself. It was a Toytec AAL setup with 2.5" spacers up front and 2" leafs in the rear. With that, I was able to install 33's, but I still had to cut down the cab mounts. I also don't do any crazy off roading.

One thing, the Toytec leafs are very rough and stiff. about 4 years after installing them, they both broke, although it didn't affect my ride much; it stayed stiff. I recently installed leafs from SD Truck Springs and they are so much smoother. They have good systems as well. http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index...1&make_select=654&model_select=8688&x=83&y=11

I'm really new to this whole lifting experience so some tips and some more explanations would be very helpful. Thanks.

The kits come with instructions. There are a lot of vids on youtube as well. The real pain is gonna be compressing the springs manually unless you can find a shop that can do it for you.

Spacers- (1"-3") - cheapest and easiest. Goes between the coil and top mount. This lift will make your ride rougher.

Coil and strut- (2"-3") - brand new coil spring and strut that are obviously longer than stock, will give you stock like ride quality.

I did the rough country 2in front level kit, I have no issues with it, but you can only run 32s with it
