Recommend ANY dashcam. Try this one if you have nothing. Many states they aren't "legally" binding but if you show an officer or insurance agent the video they will 100% have a better understanding. US Federal law needs to change to reflect this but do it!

Better than reading about it is talking to people. Get together with your local TW crew and let them know your concerns/wishes. I'm sure there are more than a few people who would be willing to take you shooting and show you some basics. Local gun ranges often rent firearms and will show you how to use them. Depending on the operation, someone may step onto the range to give you a crash course or recommend a class. IIRC, the class will be around $60 and will be very thorough.

As for being responsible with one when not in use, check local laws. It is recommended to store the firearm and ammunition separately. Of course, out of reach of children. A safe is a good investment...whether it be a large traditional one, or a smaller bedside unit.

Thanks for all that. I actually have my CCW but I got it over a year ago and for NV. Now I'm in NM. I believe there's reciprocity but the state laws are undoubtedly different. Just never got around to buying one because I was spending too much on the taco.
