    Hi Guys,

So i completely replaced my temp/compass gauge after not having a working one for along time. the temp did not work once I installed it, so thinking it was defective, I sent it back and got a replacement. Now the compass works but i keep getting the wrong temp and a "----" on my temp so I replaced the ambient air temp sensor part in the grill and I'm still getting incorrect readings and "---".

    I appreciate any advice.

You got a scanner to check to see if your getting a reading at the sensor?

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
Maybe give it some time, drive around and see if it will eventually, hopefully kick in?

If not then your probably going to have to trouble shoot the wiring to see if there are any breaks (loose wires, cracks, disconnections, etc.) in the wiring connections?

I would start from either the wiring harness from the over head console connection then back down to the connection junction box or start from the temperature sensor located in the front, behind the grill and work your way back leading to the connection junction box.

I do not have a scanner, can you recommend a affordable one? My gut does say it may be the wires since we travel extensively with a travel trailer over summertime.

That diagram is a great help. Will have to check that.

I replaced this over a month ago and calibrated the compass as well as setting the VAR. still had issues.

If your in the Houston area I can help you out. Don't really know of a cheap scanner that can read live data.

Damnit. I have 2 snap on scanners. Both cost a pretty penny. Know a mechanic?

Sure do. Trusted him with my truck for three years. Always decent priced. I'll check the wires and if I hit a dead end I'll hit him up.

If your in good terms with him just see if he can hook up his scanner and see if he has a reading on it

Of course I didn't think of that. He scanned a error for me once when my wheel bearing went bad.

What year did the compass come out of?

I think wiring changed in 09
