Ah good. This isn't political, it's economical so I can actually ask, because I've never understood where people get this idea.

What on earth makes you think politicians control the price of Gasoline? The US is a capitalist economy.

True but don't expect to see any much needed drilling start anytime soon. Also an economical statement

It hasnt went up in the past 3 weeks and that was including a natural disaster the perfect storm .........Sandy. They stopped fuel tankers heading out of the open ocean for almost 4 days..........the prices didnt go up. I believe that was directly due to an election. However in odd years that have nothing to do with elections............ the southern half of the nation gets flooding and gas prices go up in the matter of hours. And that was with gas that had already been purchased. Get it???

Oil price pressures on the US are primarily a result of demand from the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries and limitations in worldwide refinery capacity.

In other words: The problem is now how much oil is being pulled out of the ground. It's a two-part problem between how quickly it can be turned into gasoline and who is willing to buy it, at what price, after that happens.

The Chinese car market, in particular, is faster growing than the US auto market. While we still have the advantage on pure volume, the Chinese are adding more cars per year as a percentage, than we are.

Go talk to Volkswagen, Toyota, GM....any of the major global auto brands. They are ALL in agreement that China is the market that matters most now.

    http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/4691a7aa-e206-11e1-b3ff-00144feab49a.html#axzz2BVaKSMPD

The point is: Gas price in the US is controlled mainly by demand elsewhere and limitations in refining capacity. Drilling more won't do shit.

Just looking to spread a little knowledge so people can make informed decisions about things related to gasoline supply in the US :)
