    Haven't really poked around in here. At all..

    My boat has been stuck in Dutch Harbor for the last 4 days, learning just how dysfunctional both Alaska Air and Pen Air "Gold Streak" expedited freight service truly is...

    Ordered new air starter for our GM7V92 hydraulic engine on Friday morning. Said starter is expedited to Anchorage. No flights to Dutch due to weather on Friday. Starter is finally loaded on a cargo flight on Saturday afternoon. Said cargo flight gets grounded due to mechanical issues.

    Apparently after a piece of expedited freight has two failed delivery attempts, it is transferred to a different carrier; and becomes regular freight. Second freight company has no idea where it is right now. Second freight company also has contractual obligations with US Gov't to deliver mail to the island; only mail will be coming via planes tomorrow.

    Should be here Tuesday.

    Sorry for the vent... I'm at wit's end. Each day we're non-operational is - $35,000.00

    You guys down in 'Murica have it easy.

    That's why shows like Deadliest Catch really agitate me; they perpetuate the stereotype that all fisherman are drunken retards. Two out of four crew members on the boat are college educated, we have well over $200k in electronic equipment on board, as well as a KVH vSat Broadband system.


    Yep. It blows. I'm sure you experienced the wonders of AK freight logistics while you were living in Kodiak..
