Less government means more economic growth... raising income tax rates would cripple our recovery and therefore will not happen. Nice to hear a Canadian take on our income tax structure. You are aware that unlike your country we have no socialized health care system and our post office really sucks.?

Cut spending across the board and reform Social Security, allow the debt to level off, then worry about lessing it

Everyone excited about a flat tax wouldn't be so excited if they realized that it would seriously jack the actual rate paid.
Right now, our marginal rates are based off of taxable income. After deductions, most Americans end up paying 15% or less of their gross well into the upper middle class.

A flat tax would be a BOON to the wealthy who are paying 25% or more, and would fuck the middle and lower classes by jacking their rates to 20% of their gross.

Here's an idea.... for 120+ years we survived without an income tax because wages were defined as compensation for labor (a trade of personal property and thus not taxable); income was defined as corporate gain only and was taxable; then there's the kicker, we have an unapportioned direct tax, which the supreme court determined up through the 1920s as unlawful.

 

Any one of you have a spending problem... Hey just raise your credit limit... then no problems... Who needs to budget when you can go into debt and live like a Canadian superhero.
