Not to worry.... a little bickering in threads is usually all in good fun and almost expected as soon as there are differing opinions.

Exactly, we range from crotchety young dudes to crotchety old dudes. Even the "Funny Pictures" thread gets out of hand at least 20 times a day.

That, and I'm sitting here waiting to be admitted for treatment for a couple kidney stones that have to be dissolved......If I can't scream and punch something, I'd just as soon toy with young Einstein

Hopefully you found what you was looking for. Or asking for. Some guys are easy to get used to, others not so much. And only a couple things are meant to be taken literally.

Anyway. I have a shop where I do lift kit installs, etc, on a variety of 4wd brands. (mostly Jeeps and Toyotas of late)

While doing that for the past 43 years, I've figured out a few things about raising trucks.

One, top plate spacers are NOT the evil moster so many people would have ypu to believe. The ONLY problem inherent with them is the occasional bent/broken shock from suspension travelling farther than the shock....Simple preventative fix is to install a spacer (equal to the thickness of the top plate spacer) under the front suspension bump stop. I've done dozens of them for other folks. Got a maniac kid that lives right down the street from me that has pounded the crap out of his Tacoma (with Revtec top plate spacer kit) and never had an issue. Spring spacers will preload the front springs (an undesirable trait) Top plate spacers do NOT change preload OR spring rate. You retain stock ride. With that, my personal point of view is, stick with TRD Off Road springs over Sport model springs.

High dollar suspensions will have a few advantages, but rarely will the average person ever use their full capabilities. It's nice to have the high tech stuff from a "show off your truck" perspective.....But middle of the road lifts (ie "5100 Billies" and a good coil spring will do the trick AT A MUCH MORE AFFORDABLE PRICE. IMHO, I'd rather use a little restraint on spending ALL my money on a lift so I can put on any other bells and whistles I want.

When you take a truck off the road, the #1 "accessory" that will make a difference is a GOOD DRIVER. That will over-ride 90% of the "big buck fixes". Next is the RIGHT set of tires. Bigger can be better, but not always. It's about a balance.....You need a well matched combination of parts and pieces. ie....If you put the biggest set of tires you can cram under the fenders, and the truck doesn't have the gearing or the power to turn 'em, you take a giant step BACKWARDS.

On my truck....I've had a very popular "kit" suspension package that raised the truck 3" in the front....at the expense of riding like the proverbial log wagon. 2 of the shocks blew out, so I removed that kit. Until I decide what goes back on permanently, I'm running stuck OR struts and coils, with a 2-1/2" lift top plate spacer kit and a home made 1/2" poly spacer to get the look I want. I also did a home made bump stop spacer (poly) This truck has been off roaded in it's current state enough to prove beyond any question that it's JUST AS CAPABLE as it was with a $1250 kit.....and the spacer kit was $80 off of Ebay. At some point, the elitist attitude that you HAVE to have a mega-buck lift kit or it's junk just doesn't ring true.

Yep! It's mighty cool to have the most high tech kit on the market....That's great when it's time to bench race and talk about what you have. But my point is, there is a zillion different combinations of lifts. They'll ALL do a satisfactory job if done correctly, and in the hands of an experienced driver. All the bucks in the world crammed under the truck won't change the drivers ability.

So....Look, listen, and shop. Establish a budget. Decide what OTHER accessories you're wanting. Make a plan and THEN start buying.

thank you this was very helpful! So it wouldn't be bad for me to just leave the spacer lift on there?
