image.jpg I've got a WetSounds HT-4 amp that's just sitting unused, so I figured I might as well use it to add some bass in my truck. I'm trying to figure out how to wire a subwoofer to take advantage of the full 600rms watts of the sub. I've attached the chart from the manual and it shows 600w x 1 channel at 2ohms. How would I go about wiring a sub for that?

That 600x1 is in another amp's column. The HT-4 is a 4-channel (2nd column). But it can do 600x1 if you have a sub with two 4 ohm coils. Just bridge down to a 2-channel then give each coil a channel. Just make sure they're getting a mono signal and match the gains!

And if you do have the amp in the last column, simply use a 2 ohm coil configuration.

 I don't know how I didn't realize each column was for a different amp. Is it safe to give each voice coil a channel? If it is, then I'm thinking about getting a single shok triton 8" sub @manethon

As long as you're matching input signals & gain voltages and the coil impedances are identical it shouldn't be an issue. I know folks who have done it without problems. Or use 2 more efficient 8s fed 300W each?

Yeah i might just do 1 300 watt 8 and do 100w rms front speakers down the line.

If I do go single 8 I was leaning towards a soundqubed 8. They seem to have good reviews.

Yeah, SoundQubed seems to make some decent stuff at fair prices. Never owned any, but heard nothing but good things about 'em. I think they cater more to the SPL crowd than the SQ crowd.

8 isn't out yet in the V3. They're still trying to figure out a coil rock problem. V2 though... Or SA 8.

Yeah I really like my 10 inch SD3.

Yeah I meant just snag an SD 2 8 since they're on sale. SA 8 is designed for ported I thought, so that's out of the equation.

SAs work very well in sealed enclosures...at least the larger ones I've heard. You'd want every bit of that 600W though.

Edit: I see the 8 has a low Qts. I also see Sundown doesn't recommend that one for sealed enclosures. Makes sense. I've heard the 12 and 15 sealed though and they were incredible.

Is it easy to make a ported box?

Ported is tougher for sure - design more than anything though. Construction is usually pretty straight forward. Slot ports are easy enough. Finding the space for a ported enclosure in a Tacoma is the hard part.

Yeah true. The sa8 v1.5 only requires .2-.3 air space for a sealed enclosure though
