Can I hook an amp and sub into my stock radio?

Lots of info on the topic but...

You can add an amp to the stock radio, using the speaker level signal inputs running into a compatible amp with speaker level inputs, BUT the bass freq signal will still automatically reduce as the stock head unit volume is turned up (to protect the factory speakers). (the stock radios have an 'dynamic' eq curve which reduces bass as the volume is turned up)

You will need a JL Cleansweep (or Audiocontrol or Kicker or other manufacturer equivalent) to flatten out the factory signal response and keep it flat before feeding that signal into the amp. These devices are about $200 to $300, and unfortunitely require you to use an accessory volume knob to adjust the volume as well. For $200 to $300, you can just get a new, feature packed headunit.

Check out "My Audio Build" in the audio section. I added two amps, an AudioControl line out converter, door speakers/tweeters and a subwoofer. All with the stock (non-JBL) head unit. It can be done. It was a lot of work but totally worth it.
