With PCHearns and ppHam444 help, I've installed the AMP Running Boards and love them (took me much longer than 3-5 hours - but I'm 64). Question, with the controller in place, is it safe to wash the engine? Am curious if the controller could blitz out if water entered the top where the thing snaps together.

Bob, I'm pretty sure they are water resistant, but if you want to be extra careful, just use a ziploc bag and cover it if you plan on washing your engine bay.

Yes you can do it yourself! It'll take about 5 - 6 hours if you're a perfectionist like me.

I just installed these over the weekend on my 2011 ACC and I am very happy with how they came out. Looks great on the truck and they are very functional.

The total installation time was close to 6 hrs. The safety feature on the steps is extremely sensitive. On the passenger side the linkage arms were slightly off putting the step into a slight bind on deploying. I had to adjust the linkage arms to get them to move freely. I also to shim the passenger (front and back arms) to get the step to line up with the rocker on the truck. Those were the only problems I had installing the steps.

I only have a few complaints. The first is that the Tacoma kit is now made for the DC. The ACC owners now have to cut close to 10" off of the total length. I would highly recommend using a reciprocating saw for this. It cut through the step nice and easy and I did this once the steps were installed on the truck. For the price of the kit they could make 2 lengths available.

Second is that when you open the driver door (or passenger) all of the LED lights illuminate. This would have been very easy to make door priority IMO. It should only illuminate the side that the door was opened on.

Finally I would have been nice the bolt the controller down on the fender or firewall vs using a zip tie to fasten it to the factory wire harness. Kinda cheap looking to me. Once again for the cost of this kit I would have expected a bolt down controller.

Overall I think these steps are awesome and my 3 complaints don't bother me at all. I would def buy these again if I were in the market for step. Take care and I hope this was helpful!

Chuongzzz, this should be the normal speed that it retracts. I'm not sure why it's taking yours so long. Did you splice the correct wire? I know there's a wire in there for your dome light that turns off after 5 seconds after you close the door. Check your wiring again.

I had these on my '08 Tundra and they were awesome. I have also dealt directly with (driven to the company) their customer service and they can't be beat. They did change the shape of the step from previous models, I think that is why they are not as "stealth" as they used to be (mine were more of a "wedge" shape, more pointed outwardly, where the new ones are more rounded on both sides).
Notice on my mount that the step itself is not centered on the mounts. This was the only way it looked even when the unit was retracted (up). As someone else mentioned, you just loosen some screws/nuts and slide the step into the desired position and then re-tighten.
The LEDs that came with the kit were nice. They were fairly bright and were sealed and weatherproof. My only complaint about the kit was that the wiring could have been a little longer, both for the main module and the LEDs (the LEDs were a separate kit).
As far as not having a switch, all you have to do is put the steps in the position that you want them (up/down) and then remove the fuse. That disables the steps and leaves them in position.
I now have a 2013 Taco that I just lifted and am definitely getting these. AMP REALLY stands behind their stuff and makes a quality product.

Can't believe it. I ordered a set of these babies yesterday afternoon from The PowerShop.com and they were delivered this morning and I installed them this afternoon! PCHearn is right, they are not nearly as discrete as I thought that they would be and definitely not as discrete as the pair on my Tundra. But I think what they sacrificed in stealth, they made up for in beefiness. They also improved the wiring harness to include the LEDs (those used to have to be routed and wired separately).
My truck is kind of right in between where you definitely need steps/running boards and it would the "gee, those would be cool" area. I noticed that after lifting the truck my 9 year old was having a harder time getting in/out and I also noticed that I was "sliding" off the seat to get out instead of stepping out. I figured I would go ahead and get the steps now and save on the leather. Well, that's my excuse anyway:)
Man, AMP make a QUALITY product. BTW, The Power Shop met ElectricStep.com's price and I avoided sales tax (Electric Step is in CA).
    Ken
