I have been upgrading my JBL stereo system for a few weeks on my 2013 Taco. I like the head unit enough, but want a little better sound. I replaced the door speakers and the improvement was minor, so I decided to go amp and sub. I was installing the amp on Friday when I cut the wires on the harness of the factory amp. I noticed after I had the amp disconnected, the radio would not show the volume when turning the volume knob. I found out (not 100% sure if true) the JBL head unit requires that amp and that others have put their amp after the stock amp because of this.

Problem is, I cut the wires to the harness too close to reconnect. I pushed the connector out and attached my wire, but then it does not fit back into the harness.

To make matters worse, I opened up the amp and direct wired the wires to the pins on the amp itself. There are 24 pins and 12 wires to connect (all in a 2 inch spot). At the end, the amp does not work now.

I think the right answer (not ready to go new head unit just yet) is to buy the JBL amp with both white harnesses still having 2 inches of wire sticking out so I can reconnect (yes I screwed up a little part of the other harness too) the wires. I am sure someone out there has completely upgraded their system and has the old parts collecting dust. I put an ad on the BUY/SELL/TRADE pages (seen here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...ory-jbl-amp-white-wiring-harnesses-wires.html) offerring $100.

Is there another option I am overlooking?

I promise when I get it all running, I will post all the pics and details of my system (even add up the money, since my wife won't look here to see how much i spent :) )

I wish. Poor wiring on my part. I hope there is another option to add an amp without keeping the current one.

if I am correct, and I have not tried this so I am not an authority, if you were to wire in a dsp such as the 3sixty.3 from Rockford Fosgate, that has volume control in it, you should be able to wire that in and us the outputs to go to an aftermarket amp. I currently have a 3sixty.3 wired after the JBL amp, but I am seriously considering wiring it ahead of the amp. I am always on a quest for better sound.
