Amsoil for engine oil

I think the point is, with 0W20, there is no "bad" oil. Every manufacturer is good.

 

Autozone almort always has Mobile 1 jug for $25 with free Mobile 1 filter,pretty hard too get a better deal.

 

My Grandmother was trying to get rid of Pennzoil straight 30w cans still full. I grabbed them and dusted them off. Cleaned em up and they look amazing, great piece of history.

 

Did they get API certified?

 

My kawasaki powered lawn tractor uses straight 30w motor oil. I buy gallon jugs of shell 30W rotella when its time to change the oil.

 

Thought their oils were api certified long ago.

 

Doing my first oil change outside the dealer. I just ordered the Amsoil Signature Series 0W-20 and their oil filter EA15K02 that is supposed to last 15K Miles or one year. I am re-gearing on Christmas eve and was thinking about doing Amsoil for the Diff Oil too once the break in is done. Anyone have any experience with their Gear Oils? Which one should I go for?

I am re-gearing with 5.29 with 33" tires. I live in Southern California. My truck is heavier than stock - 2700lbs in the Front axle and 2500lbs in the Rear axle. I see that you recommend the

75W-90 for the Front Diff and 75W-110 for the rear whereas Toyota recommends 75W-85 for both Front and Rear diffs. Any reason why you recommend different oil standards than Toyota?

Also, I want to change out my AT Transmission and Transfer Case fluid as well. I see that you recommend Signature Series Fuel-Efficient Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid. What would I use for the Transfer Case?

 

Toyota recommendations are for MPG. Period. Fleet/sales/EPA MPG.
SAE 110 hot viscosity range is the upper half of the OLD SAE 90 hot viscosity range. Certainly not something "too thick" for differentials.
THEN we take into account your climate, your loads, and the differential design. Easy. 75W-110 for the rear, 75W-90 front.

Thank you for that information - I am new to trucks so trying to learn as I go. Again, with the Transfer case, Toyota recommends their 75W TC fluid, however, your recommendation is 5W-30. That seems like a big difference. Why wouldn't the same

75W-90 Gear oil not work for the TC?

 

Gear oil would probably work in the TC but it's not necessary. Pretty sure the roots of this early TC design it did call for gear oil. But the gear design, loads, temperatures and speeds, etc don't need the EP and AW and higher viscosity of gear oil.

There really is not much, well not a huge difference between the MTF (in the 5W-30 range ~9cSt@100°C) and 75W (~7cSt). The MTF works great, yes slightly more viscous but not noticeable.

 

Is the MTF 100% synthetic like the others?

Don't trust the 15k oil change!, I run Amsoil in my rear diff, ill do the front too with same so I got nothing against Amsoil. I use Mobil1 Extended Service in the engine but every 7000 kilometers it gets drained...

 

Sigh, unfortunately no, you cannot. Simply another fanboy with a "It's on the internet, it has to be true" post. It is simple marketing. If I ran a test that said that Pennsoil was better because I liked the taste and color better, would that make it the best? The point is that all these lubricants do their job. No one is having oil related engine failure regardless of the brand of oil they are using. Paying extra for multilevel marketing is simply foolish.

 

My buddy with a 3rd gen taco somehow got converted to Amsoil, because someone told him it’s the best…

I told him to go and waste his money then.
