Has anyone here ran a oil bypass filter? I'm seriously looking at one.

And incase anyone wants to ask the retarded question, I know exactly why i want to do it.

    1. relocates the stock filter away from its shitty position (its a 3.4L)
    2. Offers a vastly higher degree of filtration over the stock filter alone
    3. Adds extra oil capacity
    4. Allows longer change intervals
    5. Decreases engine buildup

All of that aside, has anyone here set one up and run it?

I plan on doing it, and having some stainless lines made for it (to ensure no leaks happen)

Not sure if this is the info you are looking for. You are probably looking for more direct info on use on a Tacoma, but here goes.

I ran the same two filter type bypass Amsoil filter system on a 94 Dodge truck with a 318 that I bought new. Put the filter system on not long after buying.

System I bought came with rubber lines, but I had a shop build me some braided ones. Overall liked the system. Was running Amsoil oil and remember having some sort of small drain port near them that I could take samples and send off to have the oil checked. Seems like I remember there were a few filters you could use on them (might be remembering wrong here). I do remember whatever filters I used were pretty big/long. Might be a space concern depending on what you use and where you want to mount.

I'm sure we probably have an Amsoil rep or two on here that will chime in and correct my info if needed or provide more.

I do remember that the first fitler was a more regular type filter and did the main filtration. The second filter was a small micron filter and, if I remember correctly, only a percentage of the oil ran through it at a cycle. After X number of cycles through the system it would eventually filter everything to a very small micron number. Hope that makes sense.

At least for my truck then, I liked the system, had good numbers off of it etc. Money wise, THEN, I'm not sure I saved anything as I got the oil tested maybe more often than needed perhaps. Maybe I would have in the long run after I calmed down a bit about not changing the oil and just trusting an oil test and top up for oil removed.

If I had a "way back" machine and was doing the job again on THAT PARTICULAR TRUCK, I'd maybe reconsider the braided lines. For some reason on that truck the braided lines transmitted a thump sound of what I assume was the oil pump. Had to isolate the lines in rubber and from each other to stop the annoying sound. Once I did that it was okay.

Not looked seriously at it, but had the same thought about some sort of oil filter relocation kit on the 3.4 as hate where the filter is. Not done any research on it as yet through so will be interested in what you come up with and where you decide to install etc. if you decide to go for it.

^ that's sort of a freaky looking install to me lol. That oil cap thing....

Much prefer how it was on the Dodge where an adaptor plate bolted in place of the stock filter and your inlet/outlet lines came off of it.

Looks like that type is available at least when this was posted. Found it on a quick look for Amsoil remote filter Toyota Tacoma.

Hope that link works. Looks like the remote filter size is an issue. Not sure on this mount either as I'd be looking to have some sort of protection on it if mounted here. Also, not much for having to weld to the frame, but that is just me.
    Cheers
