    Oil is the cheapest and best investment that you can make. Trying to get more miles out of oil seems rather foolish. Tranny is the same. You have to change filters every 5k anyways...

    AFE Cold air, Magnaflow exhaust, all AMS oil, tonneau cover, and Cap hitch, extra LED light(back). LED fog lights. Summer wheels Scan gauge II. Sirius radio
    I use one on my Mazda for 15 years. The truck used a quart of oil every 2000 miles and with 7 Q in the system, all I ever did is change the one filter and top it up. Not on the Taco yet. Lots of dealers in MD

    I have looked into it..Just worth it to me. Im a big believer in Amsoil myself. I run the Amsoil Sig series and oem oil filter only. Their filters are Wix made from my understanding. The Signature series is supposed to be good for 25k or one year. I still change mine every 5-6k for the piece of mind. My oil gets contaminated pretty quickly where I live.

    Not an answer to the OP's question. Doesn't help move the conversation forward.

    Any reason why you haven't put it on the Toyota yet?

    Been thinking about this for awhile.

    Yeah I would not do it either. Just change the oil. All oil in an internal combustion engine breaks down from use and picks up contaminants.

    FYI - the bypass filter system uses a second filter to clean the oil of the contaminants. I don't remember the rating, but it is super fine, so the contaminants parts is the whole point. As for breaking down, all oils have come so far that it is almost impossible to run any oil long or hard enough to break it down. Amsoil has the science behind it to prove it. I know a guy that just ran a regular oil filter and amsoil. Every 5k, he would pull a sample, send it to the lab and it came back clean until some crazy number like 50k. I wouldn't push that on a normal filter, but on a bypass system... sure would.

    Just bought it last week, just tinted the windows and added the paint protection for hood and front bumper. Installed weather tech digital floormats, the rearview mirror extender (from this site), an Optima battery with custom tray, TRD oil cap, rad cap, TRD supercharger!!! Ya!!! Just this week $3710.00 plus $690.00 installed in El Paso, TX at Hoy Fox Lexus Dealership, TRD exhaust, Airaid cold air intake waiting in box in garage, Amsoil Dual Filter remote with 42 Design Oil catch can still to install. Need advice on URD Y-Pipe???? Have URD Welbro fuel pump to install also but want help. Have to sell the mid-mount light bar from (Pelly off this site) never opened it, still in box, but decided to go a different route $100.00 takes it plus shipping in USA.
    I run the by-pass unit on my 2012. I use a BP-100 and EO25 filters which adds over 3 acts to system. I have been an Amsoil dealer for over 25 years and have used the dual filter remote on every Toyota since my first in 1991. I sold it 5 years ago with over 325k on the odometer.
    If someone could give me a quick lesson on posting a pic, I have several of the install in progress.

    I have heard various claims of these kinds for years from the Amsoil crowd, and 20 years ago I watched a buddy ruin the engine of a perfectly good older Honda Accord by following the Amsoil "science" at the point it was back then. (He was using some sort of auxiliary filter Amsoil sold then that was filled with cotton.)

    If this were a good idea the car companies would call for it. They would love to tell buyers they only have to change oil every 25k because it would be a great marketing point. Until the vehicle manufacturers recommend this oil or this maintenance schedule I think doing this is just risking several thousand dollars for a new engine (or new vehicle) to save the minimal expense of doing a simple maintenance procedure that the manufacturer specified for the engine it designed and engineered.

    Without Oil Analysis... its:
    25k on Oil and Full Flow Filter.
    60K on Bypass Filter. AMSOIL EaBP Filters have an efficiency of 98.7 percent at two microns.

    I'm a preferred customer with Amsoil.

    I was reading about it when I bought my Cargo Van ('06 Express Duramax @ 105k) and I read people getting 60k miles per full flow filter change. I didn't do it because my van only drives 7-10k miles per year. Where as my Tacoma, I'll put on 20k-30k miles per year (bought in Aug 2014 and I'm at 9k miles).

    I think it depends on the filter... Wix builds some and Donaldson builds other. I think Donaldson builds all the ByPass filters.

    I know Amsoil & Donaldson have a tight relationship with each other; it is very hard to get Donaldson filters outside of Amsoil; the only way you can order direct from Donaldson is if you have Fleet. Donaldson is know for Big Trucks and Construction equipment.

    The Signature series alone is good for up to 25K depending on the Filter used.
    EaO is 25K
    Ea is 15K
    OEM & Others is 10K

    But adding a Bypass System with Signature/Premium lines you can extend it out past 25k miles with Oil Analysis.

    Most of your long haul/big trucks & busses use this system. They don't install it on the Small Vehicles (under 20k GVWR) because the average person only drives 14k miles per year and wouldn't see any benefits.

    That makes sense. I also would think that trucks and buses that run high mileage on an engine that runs for hours on end with few cold starts would be more amenable to extended drain intervals because short trip driving as many people do loads the oil up with condensed water and acids that are not going to be removed by any filter, no matter how good, because they are chemical in nature and are not particulates.

    I haven't used their Oil Bypass Unit but I have used AMSOIL Sig Series for over 10 yrs; first in my Sierra and in my Tacoma since I bought it new in '06. No oil issues whatsoever. I'm not a dealer just a user (not a drug reference :). I am going to do my research on the bypass unit to see if it's something I may want to install.

    I looked at Amsoil recently and what I found echoed what some other folks are saying.

    These are primarily meant for high mileage vehicles like tractor trailer rigs, buses or other fleet vehicles that log many tens of thousands of miles a year. The filters work really well in those cases in which things like particulates and sludge are the limiting factor in oil life. You can extend the change interval with a bypass system in such a case.

    For a lower mileage vehicle the problem is the oil degrades with time for reasons other than particulates and sludge. The key point here is that oil that is sitting on the shelf in its bottle has a long shelf life, but once exposed to combustion products in your engine it very much does not. This is the reason change intervals are specified in both miles and time. The Amsoil bypass filters can extend the mile interval by quite a bit apparently but there is little they can do about the time interval.

    Hence, good solution if you log lots and lots of miles on your vehicle in a year. Not very helpful otherwise.

    Yes. This is why automakers have devised systems that predict oil life based on driving factors (such as the GM oil life system) and do not just extend drain intervals based on claims of an oil marketing company. The GM system is based on testing that indicates the time certain kinds of driving take to deplete the anti-wear additive package in the oil (such as ZDP). Toyota has not yet put a system such as this on the Tacoma so the admittedly conservative 5k interval is our best bet if we want the engine to last.

    Yea, I've read the Owner’s Manual and it says 5K oilchanges for the 2TR engine, while the others using 0W-20 can get 10k per change.

    I know I am going to switching back to Amsoil once myToyota Freebies are done; just trying to plan it out now and get the partsorder & ready.But, I may end upusing the Signature Oil with Ea filter and changing it at 15K (top off every5k).

    Amsoil has 3 grades of Oils available for the 2.7.
    - Signature Series (ASM, $11.50/qt) good for >25K; but limited 15k with Ea filers OR >10K with other filters.
    - XL Extended Life (XLZ, $8.60/qt) good for >10k miles(not filter dependent).
    - OE (OEZ, $7.05/qt) uses OE intervals (5K)

    By adding a Bypass system and using the Signature SeriesOil with EaO filters; it’s Up to 25K mile without oil Analysis.

    When I had my ’05 4Runner (V6, 4.0 with 115-160k miles) I used XL and Toyota OE filters and changed it at ~10k, the oil would come out asnice Carmel color; I did check the oil level at 5k miles and added around.5-.75 Qt.On Amsoil, it ran smooth anddidn’t have the tap-ticking noise I heard when I first bought it and my firstoil change using Mobile1.Also in myDuramax (non-oil life indicator), I am use the Premium Diesel Oil (DME)and an EaO filter and I change it out on a yearly basis (because I am nothitting the 15k miles; DME is 3x OEM recommendation).The Oil comes out looking like BreakfastSyrup (when I used Rotella T5 Syn-Blend look it looked like black/darkchocolate syrup).
