But oil in an internal combustion engine is supposed to be a sacrificial fluid. It's going to change to different colors based on the job it's doing. I mean, the color could have to do with the way a certain additive reacts to the acids that get dumped into the oil from the fuel byproducts that are there because of the hundreds of gallons of gas you have burned since the last change.

I respect different opinions and hold no prejudice against Amsoil as a product but I just see no great advantage in a 25k oil change. There's not any or very little cost savings at the price of Amsoil, and given how easy a job it is to change oil. I just feel better knowing it's clean and if my engine craps the bed at least I won't have to wonder if it's because I didn't just change the damn oil as Toyota says.

Just my opinion, and worth every penny you paid for it.

I had an avionics instructor who was a certified Tribologist, also in the Mensa society, so the dude is smart.
His argument for bypass filters isn't the oil change interval, that's what commercial fleets focus on to save money (I read one study that stated 66-69k miles recovered the cost on a gas engine). It was particle size. He said the biggest damage is,(don't quote me on this) around 5 micron particles that are forced between the piston rings and the cylinder walls, causing scoring/erosion, etc.

I've been planning on installing a kit for a long time now, and might extend my oil change intervals a little, but don't foresee going over 10k a change.

I'm actually surprised more offroaders aren't utilizing bypass filters, with all the dust contamination.
