Did you run the TBN check and it came back "0", or did you not run it?
I would have expected a comment from them had it been "0"

Otherwise, viscosity looks good... I would expect nothing less from Amsoil (though their virgin samples do tend to run on the high side of grade, but they are in grade).

    You're running a K&N or AFE filter aren't you?

Looks to be an awful lot of wear metals in his report. Either he ran the oil too long, or running a bad air filter in dusty environments.

He ran 10,000, which should be okay on full synth with quality filters, but there could also be remaining contamination from the previous oil change.

On my motorcycle, it always raised an eyebrow when I got a used analysis back with an additive material showing levels higher than the virgin oil, but looking at the previous report, the oil used for that interval had a higher level than the later oil.

But I agree... at 50k on the engine, I would not expect to see wear metals that high, and the insolubles look great so the oil filter is doing it's job.. but the silicon is a problem.

that report does not good in my eyes. way to much iron. and the TBN should not be at 0. but the Viscosity looks good.

i think that there was some other oils left over form the last change. also Chris we all know you run the hell out of your truck running high RPMs... maybe you need the Dominator racing oil.

    YIKES!

TBN at zero after only 10k? That is disturbing.
Normally, TBN holds pretty well to about 12k, and if running a bypass filtration system, the new quart added when the filter is changed at 10k replenishes the TBN to hold for another 10k.

When I changed the oil the filter didn't drain that much oil and when checked it was only a 1/4 quart low.

I'm referring to a bypass filtration kit, which is recomended for OCI beyond 10k regardless of what the local Amsoil evangelist tells you.
One of the oil galleys is tapped (typically where the OP sensor is) and that is run through a separate filter that is extremely fine. The filter can't flow enough to meet the requirements of the engine, so it only filters a small amount of oil each time, but it is continually "scrubbing" the oil.

It is recommended to replace the filter at 10k, and a quart is added to replace what is lost, which replenishes the TBN.

I would never run beyond 10k on the stock system (on this engine, others may be okay, such as the Duramax) no matter what the UOA tells me. I'm comfortable going that long, but not beyond that.

I stick with 5k simply because it avoids confusion on the maint light.

My '03 Tundra carried a 5k/7.5k optional interval, running full synth there's no reason you can't go 7.5k unless you are always driving short trips and not boiling off condensation and combustion byproducts.... but as Toyota started facelifting the dashes and adding the maint light, the 7.5k interval went away.

So here is my next oil change results from Blackstone Labs.

Im still worried at this point im running stock intake and stock air filter for the entire life of this oil change.

    Chris,
Looking at those results, I would say that you absolutely have an air filter issue. That is extremely high infiltration of dirt into the oil. Did you run the engine flush through when you switched oils? You did tell me you were running the AMSOIL filter as well, correct? There is just no way that the TBN should be that low and the oil should be that dirty on this oil change. I remember the first results looking almost as bad. I'd go over every inch of the air intake system and then look at a better quality air filter. Secondly, I'd change the oil again and flush it out.

Also, if you'll email me the two oil reports along with the mileage on your truck, I will send it to AMSOIL engineering. They may have some feedback and I am sure they would like to see the TBN numbers.

I have sent both samples off to our engineering group. I'll see what they offer back, especially on the TBN. In the mean time, please confirm the oil filter and s\air filters used are OEM?
