Ok, so in the next month or so I will be purchasing some new tires. I have had the truck for 7 years and have only run the OEM tires (yuk), BFG A/T (YUK) and my current set which is Cooper ST max. They are an awesome tire and will probably get another set but I am curious if anyone has other options. I need a good:
    -mud
    -street (dry/rain)
    -snow
    -ice
-towing (some of which would be a 5x8 military trailer loaded with firewood through the woods, so Load range E is required)

Can anyone think of a better all around tire? The only ones that even somewhat considering, in other words researching, are:
    - BFG M/T - some punctured sidewall reports, but people seem to really like them
    - Duratracs - people seem to love'em or hate'em. Between the week sidewall reports and chunking, but I would love to know how many sidewall incidents are will Load E tires
    - New Cooper STT Pros - so far people seem to really like them. no snow/ice reports yet

Just curious if anyone could think of a better 'all-around' mud, street, snow, ice, towing tire!

    Thanks

As long as you are staying reasonably close to the max tow rating of the truck (6500lbs) then there is absolutely no need to waste money on E load tires. They will give you horrible ride quality and suck your fuel economy.

As for the tire, I've run the Duratrac side by side against the Goodyear Wrangler Authority and the Authority is a far superior tire.

Load range C tires have a load rating of about 2500lbs a tire, giving you close to 5000lbs over the rear axle. The Tacoma cannot come close to that, the max tongue weight rating on the Tacoma is 650lbs. So with C load, if you loaded the truck to capacity and hauled the heaviest trailer the truck was rated for, you still wouldn't approach anywhere near the capacity of C. As mentioned going E will cost you penalties in ride quality, fuel economy and power.

That said, I really like the BFG KM2, these tires did great in the mud and deep snow, though you'd want to sipe them for wet/ice performance.

Duratracs with a few miles are awful in the rain. Worst street off road tire I have run.

KO2s should excell in all those situations except mud, though they made improvements over the KOs for mud cleaning.

I posted this in another thread but you may find it helpful. You can see in the spreadsheet that SL & C rated tires are rated around 2600lbs each. That is just about all a Tacoma can handle hauling and towing anyways. Plus you get a smoother ride over D or E rated tires.
