I want to know what years, models, and trims of Chrysler you were buying. Myself, and my company, has lost money on every vehicle we bought that is under 5 years old.

Me, and millions of other Tacoma owners.

I feel the oposite, I'll never understand those who don't consider resale value.

2005 ram 1500 hemi. 2005 Chrysler pt 2.4 turbo. 2007 caliber. 2009 dodge nitto. 2012 Dodge Durango. I guess working for a dealer helps. But I've always got more money than I owed.

Ah, so you had positive equity but you didn't make money. That makes sense. I've had that with every vehicle I've ever owned too. That doesn't mean it kept its value, it just means you paid your loan off faster than the truck lost its value.

You'll get more money back trading in a Tacoma than a Jeep Grand Cherokee after the same amount of money and mileage. It's a factor in buying decisions to me. I'd rather my wife buy a 4Runner over the Jeep for that reason.

My first 4X4 was a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Orvis edition. I loved it as a 17 year old. It was roomy, had a v8 and ran like a champ. I never had any issues with it at all other than the AC condensation that drained into the passenger floorboard. The only thing I didn't like was that it was full time 4 wheel drive vs optional but it did have 4 low.

I ended up wrecking it and it kept me and my passenger safe as it cartwheeled down the road. With that said, I would still take the Tacoma over it but no complaints from me.

My friend leased a 13' Cherokee for two years. Hated his decision after a month. He had so many stupid little things go bad in it. I used to grab lunch with him during work and would just laugh at everything that went wrong and all his bitching lol

Yes, but I don't expect to pay 20k and trade it in for 22k. It's just not as bad as a bag of sand.
    Don't get me wrong there's a reason I drive a Toyota.
I plan on keeping this truck.

As long as you're happy. thats what matters

    Enjoy your fast Fiat. :burnrubber::mudding:

However the resell on that will be utter garbage compared to a Toyota.

And you will most definitely be taking advantage of the extended warranty.

As a smarter adult I have learned my lesson with american branded products such as dodge/jeep ect.

    LOL.

I'm not saying the Tacoma is bullet proof, but I'd like everything to work for the first year at least :p.

You know what, good for you OP for getting the Jeep. Like I said earlier, I don't care what you drive and enjoy your decision. I doubt you will regret it unless something goes wrong. Sorry I talked about the disadvantages of the Jeep because that's obviously not allowed on a Tacoma forum.

How does getting more money than you owed equate to 'making money'

All that means is you weren't upside down in your loan.

This doesn't quite make sense. Of course vehicles go down in value. I did not buy a tacoma for it to increase in value.

I do appreciate the fact that they maintain their value well. Same with my motorcycles. I chose to buy a Honda Shadow Sabre and XR250 because a) they are reliable, and b) because they hold their value well. I literally sold my Sabre for $200 less than I bought it for, which I owned for about 6 years.

Do you really not care if your truck is worth something when it is time to sell? That's interesting.

But what if you plan on driving the car/truck into the ground? Resale has little meaning at that point. I bought my 2008 scion tc daily driver knowing damn well I was going to keep until it's worth almost nothing because of the miles I drive per year.

I plan on driving my Tacoma into the ground, but I also like the option of dumping it for a smaller loss over other vehicles should I end up regretting my truck in 3-4 years.

Take for example my Ram. I made minimum payments had my truck for 2.5-3 years and got 5.5k more than what I owed. I know I did not make money I said that wrong but I never lost my ass like all the fan boys want to believe.

Yeah, except dollar for dollar the Tacoma will put more money back in your pocket or in a new vehicle when you get rid of the Tacoma. When I traded my 3 year old Ranger I lost 1k off my 5 year loan due to it being in the middle of the recession. When I traded my 2004 Oldsmobile (bought in 2007) in 2009 I made about 3 K. If I sold my Tacoma right now I'd make about 8 K over what's left on my 5 year loan, and that's amazing.
