Sad to say my tacoma was in an accident recently. I was not driving the truck, a family member was, but there were NO injuries and everyone (both parties) are in good condition. Thankfully, because by the looks of the damage it could have been much worse.

I have never been in an accident or been in touch with someone who has been in an accident that has caused this much body damage to a vehicle. I am waiting for the adjuster to get back to me but in the mean time I wanted to see what TW thought about a crash like this.

I am wondering if the truck is going to be considered totaled or if you think they will repair the damage.

I got to the scene when the truck was being hauled off and have yet to see the passenger side that received the impact from the oncoming vehicle.

From what I can see the impact happened between the rear passenger bedside and the front passenger door. On that side I believe the rear bedside, the rear door, the front door and the cab are all damaged with dented metal.

The driver side got tossed onto the ground and it looks like the rear bedside, the rear door, the front door, the cab, and the front fender have all been dented and scraped from sliding on the pavement.

Of the 12 body body pieces that make up the truck I assume 9 of them have been dented, scratched or damaged in some way.

The truck is a 2008 long bed pre runner with 90k miles that can't be worth more than $12-13 as it was before the crash. I am wondering if they will replace/ repair or consider it toast. '

If anyone has an insight or ideas, comments, or water feel free to let me know!

I've had this thing since I first started driving, would be so sad to say goodbye to my first truck haha.

If not it's a total loss, paint on my truck was nearly 10k without body damage

Judging by damage in front of passenger rear tire, I would assume its totaled. You best bet would be wait until you hear from your adjuster/insurance company. The fate of your truck is ultimately in their hands now.

I was thinking the same thing. Even after body repair that paint is gonna be a whole chunk of the process

If it's totaled it would be nice to get all your aftermarket parts off the truck for possible resale. Would the insurance company let you do that?

I would like to but if I take all the suspension / wheels off, the truck will basically just be sitting on some cinder blocks. Not sure what they will let me do yet, I also have an auto system I would want to remove haha

Get stock suspension of CL and swap it out. The insurance company won't give a dime about after market parts. Glad everyone is safe. I don't let nobody drive my truck.

Sorry to hear about your truck, doesnt look too bad though. A buddy just totaled his rolling it on a trail, got a good payoff for it, kept the truck, now its in the shop getting front & rear lockers, 35s and a few more goodies. Just bought a $1500 corolla to get to work and back.

That passenger side sure looks bent...depends on cab damage, and how the frame survived...

It could buff out, hold my beer.
Sadly in today's world it will probably be considered totaled. Get some of those parts off if they do.

In PA they changed the law so that if your car is totaled you can't keep it. You used to be able to get it back if you wanted it for parts but now if the insurance deems it totaled you're not allowed to have the vehicle back in your possession.

    shes a gonner.

Also... 1. NEVER EVER LET ANYONE ELSE DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE. If they need a truck tell them to go rent one.... if they bitch and moan hand them a 20 dollar bill and tell them to go to home depot to beat on someone elses truck.

    2. God damn could it of been any more of a sterotypical so cal bro leaned prerunner.......

Either way, glad everyone is safe, but IMO id never want my truck back if it was hit hard enough for a rollover, unless i was going to turn it into a trail rig.

Having been hit by a drunk driver, in my experience it's usually the insurers call. And by that, I mean the company of the at-fault party. If the cost of repair to previous condition (note: doesn't necessarily mean like-new) is greater than the value of the vehicle, it's an automatic total. From there you have 2 options. 1) They pay you the pre-collision value, you go on your way. 2) You want to keep the vehicle, they'll pay you a reduced amount. Also, if there is any damage to the frame, typically also a total. With a rollover, its safe to make the assumption its a total. Also local laws apply.

Looks like you got some nice stuff put in there, I would see about recovering as much as I could before surrendering it to anyone.

Note I am not a lawyer or adjuster, just giving my experience. Consult with someone who specializes in this stuff. I had help during my process, I got med expenses paid for (which is funny because I was in the military, so it was free anyway), rental, and some add'l cash. Of course, my situation they wanted to settle ASAP and not get sued for insuring a DUI driver.

    Good luck, OP.
